Urgghh. Mutant uprights. Bolts should definitely be M10 on the VX (and all Elige variants up to and including the V6).

The thing is I haven't changed the uprights straight from vxl like this. A quick search on here shows that darron'so also had m12 bugger. On the upside they're 10.9 and not 8.8 .

Front or rear? Can't imagine there's a whole load of meat on the rear ball joint plinths to upsize the bolt hole. Probably not that much on the front steering arms either.

anyone got a spare set going free (obviously not 'FREE!'), tried to ordered from DeRoure, but they say they are on back order. I've had the car for 7 years, many trackdays and never changed them, but reading various scary threads here has me worried lol

Go back a few pages and Christopher Neils number and instructions are there. I'm sure they will help you out. In fact here you go http://www.vx220.org...er-bolts/page-3

If it's of any help, I just bought a variety of M10 bolts length in 12.9 steel, so I can get the exact length correct. You can then torque them up a bit more and they would hopefully be a bit more resiliant to stretching when curbed or drive hard with sticky/wide tyres.

Quite a few VX220s I've seen have hub carrier bolts that are far too short IMO, only last week I took one out that was probably only using 1/2 the depth of the available thread.

That's pretty scary considering what the repercussions could be.

Indeed, this was discovered after I had driven it the car myself for about 30 laps round a circuit at full pelt.

This is why I strongly recommend anyone buying one that they check the running gear as soon as possible after purchase. You just don't know what some of the previous owners have done (or not done).

Take care on 12.9's Nev. Whilst they are harder they are also a bit more brittle. I've seen two failures of 12.9's (both rear) on cars who were riding the kerbs fairly regularly. Whilst I can't comment on why they failed (could've been installed incorrectly) they were both recently fitted 12.9's. I've only seen one other failure and that was 8.8's. I've yet to see a 10.9 set go but I'm sure there must've been some.

Where can I buy new hub carrier bolts? Standard or heavy duty. New member and VX T owner, want to change them before I use the car!

I had a 10.9 rear bolt snap on me when I went though a huge pothole (that also bent my wheel). I had bought the 10.9 bolts myself from Mango and installed them carefully with an F1 friend, all double checked with a torque wrench. Despite this, it snapped.

Hence why I switched to 12.9 bolts (with +15% torque).

I agree though, switching to 12.9 bolts might be a potential issue, but in my experience over the last 3 or so years it has been fine. Bear in mind I drive over terrifically bumpy B-roads, which really hammer my suspension. To give you an idea how much, I have to send my coilovers off for a refurb every 2 years as they are totally knackered by then.
