Can anyone point me in the right direction ? When the ignition is switched on I get a fairly loud buzzing in the engine bay and when I press the starter button nothing happens apart from the displays for fuel level, temp and mileage go blank but stay lit. The buzzing appears to come from the back of the engine and it seems to me that there is an accompanying vibration in the fuel pipe feeding the rail. Thankfully it's in the garage. I used it quite a bit on Weds and I did notice that the fuel pump sounded much noisier than normal during priming. Anyone any ideas ? Are the two things related? Fuel pump knackered ? Autoelectrics are a black art as far as I am concerned !!

First check how much juice is in the battery with a multimeter.

Check battery charge and tightness of the battery connectors. Also check earth's between the battery and chassis and engine and chassis.

Many thanks.   I put a battery conditioner on this morning since I don't have a multimeter and found that it is charging. A bit of a surprise since the car had a pretty quick 100miles on Wednesday. ( quick by my standards !! ). I have previously had to charge the battery if the car has been stood for a few weeks so a new battery is on the cards I guess. I will look forward to doing that !! Fingers crossed that it starts this afternoon. Thanks again.

It took 24hours to charge the battery and the car started fine. But then needed charging again. What I did find is that the battery had moved forward and sideways to the nearside. I see there are lugs on the clamp to stop sideways movement but nothing to prevent forward movement. Or am I missing something ? Is it likely that the terminals were touching the body somewhere and causing the discharge ?

I see on the Eurocarparts that they have a Bosch 063 for around £40 which a number of members have recommended. Does it have a handle for easier removal ?

Alternatively can anyone point me at a brand that definitely has one ? Thanks in anticipation

Battery type is 063 for the vx and I found europarts the cheapest. Most get the halfords or Bosch battery and make sure it's got a handle to help with fitting. There isn't any other clamp other then the one to stop it going side to side so I fitted foam to the front to help wedge it in better.

Carparts4less is a sister company to eurocarparts and is sometimes cheaper. Found this deal just the other day for another member.   http://www.carparts4...70637&0&cc5_993

If you fit the battery bracket in a certain way there is no movement of the battery

Many thanks fellas. Bosch battery on its way and will take up the foam idea since I cannot see how the existing bracket stops forward movement under hard braking. Thanks again.

You need to move the battery about 5mm closer to the front of the car - the battery clamp will then drop down c.1cm onto the lower platform on the battery. This will allow the clamp to reach around 3 sides of the battery holding it in place.

I changed mine last weekend so I am familiar with this.

Even with the clamp bolted down onto the battery it could still move forward. Foam cost nothing so it's worth packing around it.

Without removing the clamp I cannot envisage how it is supposed to prevent the forward movement but I will be removing the battery tomorrow and will have a closer look. Thanks.

That thing at the bottom with the holes in it prevents forward motion.

Preventing sideways motion is the biggest challenge.

Exactly this and it moves no where 👍
