So who's got the quickest/easiest/best technique and tools for drilling out the precat in an NA downpipe?

I used to stick them in a band saw and cut them across the middle. The cat lifts out and you weld it back together.

It's a lot faster than trying to drill it out

Big drill bit but keep speed down as low as possible - not easy with a little drill as they stall whereas a big'un will snatch then you do the spinny round thing😬 Find someone who has a large vice( mechanics type not sordid sort :-) Good luck 👍

I've done it previously, just wondered whether there was a better/quicker/easier method

I used snipe nose pliers.  Jam them into the substrate, twist and pull.  Easier than drilling IMO.

Cool, cool and cool during drilling! Just a spray flask with water will save your drills and speed up the process. (You can be lucky that the whole thing comes loose; screw a big threaded screw-bolt in the material and pull/lever everything out with that.)

No drilling needed. Screw a 100mm wood screw in to the middle, grab with pliers or a claw hammer and it'll come straight out.

One 13mm drill bit and small bodywork air saw , takes around 10 mins.
