Where do the ratings, fuel efficiency, wet grip and road noise come from? There are £50 nokian and other brands I've never heard of with C/B/A ratings that are at least half the price of the more well known brands whose 'ratings' are no better or on occasion, worse!

Much like mpg figures, it's up to the manufacturers to make up the test results as they see fit.

I have always fitted tyres with an A or B wet rating but when you read reviews it seems the ratings are crap. Auto express did a review of eight tyres, the Michelin energy save was an A rated wet tyre but it came seventh out of eight on the wet test. They rated it as very poor ? Did they have a vested interest in the results ? I suppose reviews are a good guide

Wet ratings are just straight line tests, nothing to do with cornering seemingly, and testing is done by the companies themselves

Don't you lot in Scotland just fit tractor tyres apart for them two sunny days 😂👍 Seems to me you must have a direct relationship between wet grip and rolling resistance/fuel economy if the rubber compounds and tread patterns are similar. So that fuel efficiant tyre from the top rating to the bottom rating can save you up to £100 in fuel over the life of the tyre they say but you crash in the rain 😂😂
