Dear all, I need to change the belts next year on my stage 2 VXT. I was therefore contemplating the under drive pulley mod and balance deletion mod from Courtenays. I'm interested to know from you guys who have had this done as to the benefits you goIs it worth the expense I guess? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Jon

I didn't notice any difference besides slightly stronger vibrations on idle on my stage 1.5 vxt. I would have been dissapointed if I had spent that kind of money CS sell it for but I used the stuff from a scrapped Vectra for a few £.

I already have a full balance deletion kit. It's been in he garage for a year.... Just trying to decide if I should pay to fit it or give it up and sell it. Hi Ormes, To be honest I would buy the parts and fitting from Courtenays on this occasion or they might get a bit arsey.... Just trying to get feedback on these two mods to see if they are worth doing first? Is there a big improvement on power / drivability? Cheers, Jon

I would fit the balance shaft deletion and remove all the bits fitting crank pulley Std one with shorter belt fine or go for a alloy / underdrive pulley Plenty of threads about it worth a read 😉 DG

In case you are interested, the kit can be self sourced, the ladder is off an X20XEV engine as is the new oil pickup pipe. Both can be bought for about £10 from a second hand engine. The grub screws to block the oil channels can be bought for pence.

When you replace the strengthening ladder, it is possible to fit new 12.9 bolts (as opposed to the OEM 8.8 bolts or what ever they are). These allow you to apply more torque to the ladder and clamp it more firmly - a good idea for > 300 BHP engines. At the same time you can also replace the crank cap bolts with similar.

Thanks Nev, I already have a full kit for the balance deletion. I'm really looking to get people's opinion on the true benefits of these two mods before deciding to go ahead or not based on the cost? I would like to know if it will complement the MMG stage 2 tune? Thanks, Jon

I supply the deletion kit new, LEH oil pick up pipe, o ring, reinforcement frame, baffle, grubs screws and 12.9 grade cap head bolts of the correct lengths.

Other suppliers supply the low quality GM LEH bolts which on some of the bolt hole are too short because of the counterbalance shafts mounted on dowels so you loose the first 4mm of thread in the block £155 with UK delivery.

http://www.courtenay...r/prod_337.html Courtenay also provide the correct length / spec bolts etc £148.80 excluding any diacound sure postage is £10 iirc As Nev has also said you can build it on the cheap, give the oil pickup a good clean if buying 2nd hand Don't forget to include cost of gasket set, autovaux tend to be a cheaper oem option and oil and filter DG

DG

Or you keep the oil pickup and extend the support legs. For example by using the legs from the donor engine.

That kit is supplied with the low quality original GM LEH bolts which are not suitable for the ZLET engine, if you use them you will pull the thread from the two dowel holes which the counter balance shafts located on.
