Turbo Alternator Removal

Turns out I have a faulty Alternator. Tested with a multimeter and voltage is typicallu 14.5v with engine running when revving it goes up to 17v +. Overcharging issue, that would point to a knackered voltage regulator. Whats the easiest way to remove it? I read about one of the bolts being long and a pain to get clearance. Is it NS wheel off and then liner the best route or underneath? The top is impossible without removing inlet manifold. Plan is to get it refurbished, spoke with the chap I've used in the past and been quoted £70 maximum for a full refurb.

That long bolt is VERY long, tricky job and a bit of a knuckle scraper but do-able.

Thanks, will attempt it over the next few days. Hairy, that guide is for a NA. Suppose basic principle is the same, funny as I must have downloaded that sometime ago, phone had it saved already in memory. Lol.

I replaced mine a few years back, but the recon replacement went faulty within a couple of days so had to change it a second time. After a little practice it's really easy! Having all the right spanners, sockets and flexi drive to hand helps too.

I've still not got round to getting it off. Might be next weekend now, having to do it in the driveway as garage is occupied. Weather don't help. :(

Finally got my Alternator sorted... had the same one reconditioned. Was a little bit of a pain!

 

Battery charged and holding as it should now so thats a good sign.

Hateful job. Those two bottom bracket bolts I'd love 5 minutes with the guy that thought they were a good idea :D

I didn't find them that difficult, the washers slipped off a couple of times but some copper grease helps stop that happening. Found squeezing the alternator from the side the most trickiest with charge cooler pipes and Racelogic ECU + wiring in the way. Makes me wonder what else might go wrong and the limited access without removing clam...

Makes me wonder what else might go wrong and the limited access without removing clam...
