Hi all Can yiu advise whether i need to remove the seat in order to get at the fixing behind it for the removal of the passenger sill cover? If so, can you advise whether i can remove seat from inside the car or do i have to go in from underneath ie: remove the undertray? Are the seat rail bolts on captive nuts? Thank you in advance Mike

Seat out would be easier but it can be done with a stubby screwdriver and a lot of patience

Too true. I glued a hex bit into a ratchet ring spanner.

The lotus motorsport seats no longer have issues with that bolt due to design.

Bit of an expensive workaround though.

I'd recommend a magnet for when you drop bolts down the back of the seat :ffs:

There is a knack, start by getting the 3 easy bolts just 2 turns in. Then tilt the seat back and drop the last bolt in and then lower down. I use a ratchet ring spanner and hex bit arrangement to get the bolt to turn. Make sure the threads are clean though or you'll not get the bolt to bite or worse cross thread it.

Hi, thank you for the responses, however can I ask two fundamental questions

1) Are the seat retainer nuts captive ie: they are not going to drop into the pan when I remove the bolts

2) I am guessing now that the seats doesnt need to be removed however there are two challenges 1) Removing one of the seat bolts and 2) Removing the rearmost fixing of the sill without removing the seat

Anyone West Midlands based, with the tool and a passion for beer?

1) No, these are in the floor chassis

2) Drivers seat is easy to remove, 4 bolts.

Pax 3 bolts easy, 1 front left is the mission if you don't have a short tool for the job.

Much better to remove both, then you have full access if you wish to remove speaker panel

That hex bolt I replaced with an ordinary bolt, so easy now to remove with a small socket set 😊

I am a total mechanical numpty and even I managed to take out the passenger seat - the ratchet spanner was the key. Have a wooden spoon handy to reach under the seat if said bolt rolls under there.
