Does anyone know of an alternate valve to replace the original ? Doesn't look to be anything special but is now no longer available ( via Autovaux anyway ) Currently doing a passable impression of a ball bearing in a tin can 😦 Thanks in advance

I thought that mine was chattering away, turned out to be the exhaust manifokd. Worth a check.

Thanks for replies and kind offers , definitely solenoid noise - I can feel it clicking by hand through the side vent , started making noise immediately after s/c conversion so I wrapped it in a big chunk of armaflex pipe insulation and isolated it from its mounting which reduced the noise, not an ideal solution hence the search for a new valve, I think I'll have a trawl of some local breakers and see if another GM valve would fit then buy new from a motor factor

So a short update , removed valve to use as a sample then thought to put temporary 12v supply on to test it , sure enough quite noisy, then blew through valve with brake cleaner ( not correct stuff I know) into a clean jug and out comes small bits of black grit - charcoal from the canister I think , valve now near silent off the car and completely silent now refitted 😊😊 Just a further thought - the canister is piped to the throttle body ie after the air filter, is it possible for this grit to enter the engine ? this problem with the noisy valve only appeared after s/c work probably disturbed contents of evap canister and associated pipery. Not such a short update then - - - should have just said it's sh#t in the valve 😃

Well done, mine seems to make a ticking noise which i'd like to get rid of as it's right behind my right ear. Is the valve easy to get at?

Not that difficult - arch liner & side grille off , the valve was fixed to the bracket that supports the mass of pipes and canister, detach valve & unpick crimped hose clip /pull off push fit hose at other end ( twist & gentle pull best - valve body looks v flimsy ) unplug loom & that's it, I had a spare plug that fitted so just put 12v onto valve & back flushed with solvent into a clean jug to see what came out - little bits of "gravel " - dried out , refit , job done Hope that's helpful - I was getting really p#ssed of with the noise - think you mentioned little ends gone in an old post 😕did sound that rough 👎

Mine is doing this so I'll have a look at it on the weekend. What would be the best thing to clean out the canister with? Carb cleaner?

Think I used clutch /brake cleaner to back flush the valve but carb stuff should work , just a thought but be careful with temporary power supply not to cause spark while using cleaner- apologies if that's obvious ☺

Has anyone removed the evap from there car ?

OBDtuner pro allows you to disable it so was keen to see what everyone else has done if they have done it

Would get rid of a bit of weight and a mass of pipes but would removing it make your car stink of fuel on a hotday ?

I thought the canister was open to the tank i.e. absorbing fumes then is scavenged by intake vacuum during the first few minutes of engine run time - hence the ticky tacky noise of a duff valve goes off after a while ?

I removed the valve and canister once, my garage was full of fuel fumes the next day, so I refitted the charcoal canister and left the outlet (which used to go to the evap valve) to vent to air instead.

Been totally fine for many, many years.

ps: I have throttle bodies so no electrical feed for the evap, which is why I removed it.
