Hi guys,

I'm looking at VX220 and more or less decided on the 2.2 version, but can anyone comment on this. I'm not all about outright speed, but want durability.

Are there any absolute disaster areas for a VX220 with say 50000 miles, if generally well looked after?

Also, how common are VSE factory fitted exhausts and can you get aftermarket good quality alternatives?

Many Thanks

hi and welcome

the 2.2 is very reliable and any vx220 is a great car. (as long as you have a sense of humour)

Mileage is pritty irrelevant on these cars as long as its been looked after, a suspension refresh will be a good idea on high mileage examples but that's about it. the only disaster area for a vx220 is chassis damage.

VSE is not that common but they do turn up, there are a few after market exhaust available but not loads.

If you are keen on a 2.2 (Z22SE engine) the main thing to check is regular oil change proof and timing chains have been changed. They are strong engines in a light car, so not stressed. Similar goes for the Z20LET engine in the trubo car.

Well the paintwork can be a disaster area if its spent its life outside.

Don't buy the first car you see (unless its a minter!).

Some choice on aftermarket exhausts, tullett, milltek, 2bular are all popular.

A handful of receipts from one of the usual specialists should give confidence.

Thinking of reluctantly selling mine, had it over 7 years now and can't fault it, has never let me down but think now it's my only car I am ready for some comforts again, it's a 2.2 with larrani exhaust, mines 65000 miles but think it was last year it had a new set suspension springs. Paint chipping tends to obviously be worst at the front so when I decided on a fresh new look a few years back and got it resprayed had protection film on the front. If your still looking for one and intrested pm me and you might be able to tear my pride and joy away from me ;-)

Car, but if the latter is also available... The policy is that I am allowed to look, just not touch.

Not really yet, finances are still 'shite' at the moment, but I am sitting in hope that Mel's childminding business takes off, if so I am!

That or one of my crinkly's passes... As one of them has made me promise to split anything I get 50% property and 50% luxury.

A VX counts as property. Not sure about luxury.
