Hi all, This is more for new owners out there as I noticed many of you were unfamiliar with the above and it should be considered a service item now the car is over 10 years old... Please check that yours have been changed on your cars as we have had multiple examples of failures which luckily have been safe until now. I just changed by hub carrier bolts finally and realised what a lucky escape I might have had. They were badly corroded both at the head of the bolt and in the threads themselves. One side had to be carefully drilled out as the bolts sheared off so easily. They could have failed at any time. This is not meant as scaremongering, only to keep us all safe in these fantastic cars. Cheers, Jon

Indeed, well said. Any new owner should check/replace theirs, as a second hand car will have an unknown history where it might have been kerbed or bounced down big pot holes or simply tracked a hell of a lot.

It's a very cheap job to replace them and quite eacy, even for a beginner mechanic/owner.

I myself had a single HCB fail on the N/S/R, thankfully the second bolt held the upright in position just about, but it might have been a lot worse if both had snapped :(

Hello Raptor, You need replacement toe links and hub carrier bolts. Both are available from Elise parts. The uni ball uprated toe link is a good upgrade for the toe link issue 👍

ok looking to replace the HCBs.... are these the only 2 options.... Shipping in kinda expensive ? £19 ??

If that's the only option then I suppose it's cheaper than a failure :)

What is the recommended replacement interval for the HCBs ?

It just occurred to me, 30+ trackdays later, that I am still on the same ones from 2010 when I bought the car and made it track ready.

Change them as a service item, every twelve months, I had them snap after 15 months, not nice

Try and get ones that are quite deep heads though. Undoing an Allen head when it's only a gnats cock deep is a pain.
