Hi All

Can anyone advise source for replacement standard fuel pump for 2.2 N/A.

Pump is making whirring sound and dont want it failing when I'm a million miles from home. The Vocky pump replacement guide looks good .

Just need a pump at the right price.

Spitfire have a brand new pump unit which is a much better option all round for standard engines and up to 350bhp  :)

Compared to the VX pump:

It's far more powerful

it uses the same power, about 6-7A  the increase in performance is due to the efficiency of the modern turbine pump.

It recharges the canister much quicker than the OE pump, under half the time as this is a dual input pump it recovers from low fuel starvation almost immediately where the OE unit takes several seconds, in fact the engine usually cuts out first.

It has a larger canister than OE

Dual filter, E85 compatable, full warranty and it's cheaper than OE (when it was available)

:)

But if you want a Walbro you can have one for £60, we can get them for £45

Just be warned we would not recommend fitting one into the VX OE pump unit, even if you do know how to work the unit correctly there are much better pumps available.

It uses too much power and in light of the melted pump connector and housing failures which caused the 4-pin connectors to become obsolete you need to be very carefull.

It's noisy and if you do not how to adjust the unit to work with the new flow/pressure, then you may also get fuel starvation in left handers.

We changed 5 last year back from Homer Walbro jobs to a fully functional HP units.

The quality of walbro's seems to have gone down hill. They don't seem to last long...

If you're not in a rush, I've also got a standard pump from a turbo VX that I can send out to you, will be removed by next weekend. No charge.

Interesting Stu, not noticed this being a problem with them though they don't like running dry and this may easily happen with a DIY install, have you seen anything in particular then??

They are £249.95 +del and vat

This is a new unit with a full warrenty not a replacement pump or conversion.

It has a new connecter not the old 4-pin Delphi design.

Plug and play if you wish but we would rather the new connecter is plumbed straight into the harness rather than use the vehicle harness which will still have the older one.

My original Walbro overheated and died.

the advice from CS... don't run less then 10l of fuel on a standard tank

after a lot of arguing it was replaced FOC as it was only a month old (and only because I had the cut out)

I have had my 2nd walbro for 3+ years now, driven around the country, across eu and trackdays. its annoying only effectively having a 26l tank now but its working still..

and yes it is noisy. Ill do something about it when it dies

In fairness to Walbro this is a problem with the unit, you would get the same issues with any pump including the ones we use if the units are not converted to match.

Familiar problem.

Do the spitfire pumps have a new canister unit and do you have one which will supply enough fuel for over 400 hp in SC form

Yes/no  :)

The new pumps are a complete unit with all the advantages over OE as mentioned above, these are good for 350-400 NA depending upon rail pressure and 320-380 SC etc.

Once you are over 400 NA or 350 SC then the option is to convert your old unit and fit a new turbine pump, this can be one of several pumps we use (though not Walbro).

Fitting the pump is the easy bit, converting the unit eductors to match the new flow, replacing all the seals including the elec connector seal, wiring harness and whatever else needs doing is the tricky bit.

These are about £195+ vat for most pumps (included) but if you need something really special for 600bhp or whatever we would need to check the extra cost of the required pump.

We did most of the Audi conversions and another 100 since, quiet, reliable.

But I'd rather sell you a pump for £100 and walk away when it doesn't work in the unit correctly.

NOT
