So I'm in the process of having my gen 1 quantum zero's replaced with the latest ones for reasons I'll go into when it's sorted, I've been sent the new ones and instantly noticed they are a lot wider than the originals.

Now I'm pretty useless mechanically but thought it would be easy to change over some suspension.

After the struggle of removing the old I got the new one in and the extra width became a problem...

The tube is wider than what it mounts into and as a result the springs diameter is also just a few mm clear too.

Have I been sent the wrong set or do you fit them 'upside down'? - lack of mechanical knowledge showing there.

I think you need wider mounts. This is the case with Nitrons where you need wider mounts for the 46mm than the 40mm. Best get in touch with the supplier.

Looks to me like you need the wider top brackets too to clear the shock body.

Yep even the Nitron 40's come with wider bracket for the abs side. Wider still with the 46's You maybe able to give enough clearance bending the sides of the brackets but would suggest contacting suppliers as already covered 😉 DG

Are they fouling when the bottom is connected or just really close? DG

Guess what I just found in the bottom of the box that I thought was just more bubble wrap! Thanks guys. Though having only seen the nearside front, what's the reason the 2 brackets I have are different?

Ah that explains it, thanks chill. The latest ball ache is the lock nut key blunting. Now stuck with only 1 new suspension fitted as I can't get the fecking wheels off!

Hammer a 19mm socket over it.

Attempted that, but the front offside is on so tight, socket just slipped and now the teeth are a little knackered... front wheels haven't been off for a pretty long long time.

Drive it down to a garage.  They'll get it off for a fiver.

Hopefully, just waiting on some replacement bolts to show up to replace all the old nasty ones with and do away with the lock ones for good.

If they've not been off for a very long time they may also be corroded to the hub, don't forget the very hot water method of removal if this is the case although I know it's fun to hit things with a big hammer 👍😂

Boiling water poured over corroded on alloy wheels is superb they just lift off as the aluminium expands more than the steel, not sure how good it would be on disks .

I've mildly heated discs with a torch before - they come off much more easily if they're corroded on.

You're going to have a hell of a time getting those oversize spacers out of the quantums.  The supplied brackets only need the short spacers.
