Hi all,

Quick question. I'm relatively new to VX, so haven't encountered the full range of problems yet (so far only popped rad', wheel bearing, leaking lights, bonnet cable stuck, heater cable broke, abs wire broke several times, discs and pads, water in plugs, rocker cover gasket failed ).

From searches I see that failed side engine mounts are generally experienced as grinding noise and clonks when accelerating. I've recently started getting a noise in 1st and 2nd when accelerating hard....but I would describe it as much more like a harsh crackle from behind me, rather than a grinding noise. Does this sound right? And do the side mounts sound different to the front/rear mounts?

Many thanks for any help.

Kev

Mine sounded like a very harsh vibration by my right ear, the mount was split in half when removed.

Kev, I'm in Marlow, and more than happy to have a listen. I've experienced it twice so know what I'm listening for.

My drivers side one has gone after the spirited session on the dyno, just sorting out prices with Vibra-technics and then I should be getting a few of these into stock.

Mine split in half too! I have the front and rear Powerflex mounts fitted now and the side mounts are given a bit of a break. The payoff is a little more vibration in the cockpit (fnarr, fnarr!).

all kinds of bullshit ways of descirbing the noise, but in short if you get a noise in 1st or 2nd then its mounts.

and if you think its a coffee grinder, then you also need a new coffe grinder

That's exactly where it is coming from....was that the driver side mount or one of the front/rear?

Hey...I think I might have seen you on the Wycombe M40 roundabout a while back  B)

Might take you up on that if there's any uncertainty

I think for the modest outlay it would be worth taking up the offer from D-Dawg........let me know if you want to meet up to have a look before though. You can talk me through the wheel bearing swap then!!

Driver side. The front and rears are much stronger. Best practice to swap both sides at the same time.

I had Back-on-Track do the bearing....drive shaft was so solidly seized in there that it took air hammer and a lot of force to get it out

Will do. From the guides it looks like main requirements are a >40cm extension bar (have this already) and a 6-point 13mm hex socket (to prevent rounding-off). Any other hints and tips?

Take Daryl (D-Dawg) up on his offer.  I'm also in MK and happy to help or, if Daryl isn't available, do it for you.

Also make sure your new mounts are oem ones.  Autovaux have been having problems with their pattern parts which have turned out, in several cases, to be the wrong size. Seen it for myself on Austin's car when we changed the mounts at Daryl's the other week.

I'd be down to come along and provide moral support and donuts if we have another party at Daryl's! I got my replacement OEM mounts from Courtenay Sport about a month ago! http://www.courtenay...r/prod_764.html

(Daryl - I'm having a nightmare with my verniers to measure the pattern mount I've got. I needed a new battery, but the quality dept. wouldn't give me one without insisting on calibrating them first, so I'm still waiting for them back!)
