I rewired mine and use a grey relay instead, all the yellow relay does is stop the 'starter' button from working once the engine is running thumbsup

But you do need to remember not to push the button when the engine is running :P

Do you have a description of your rewiring?

(as the first dutch car has now come to a complete stop, due to non availability of the yellow one)

Thanks Vocky,

More for emergency purpose, to create a workaround to get home if the yellow one is fooked, would be to

get direct juice to the starting engine, is to temporarily (untill engine runs) connect pin 30 brown, to pin 87 brown/red.

For the electrically impared under us, that is bracket sloth 1M and 2M from the yellow relay:

We've noticed on a lot of cars this is a black relay not a yellow one

Same size and everything though and has a GM stamp

I have a couple if anyone needs one?

It should be a pretty standard start inhibitor relay, but never bothered to find a suitable replacement part

Great find. Given it's made by Meta and they're Italian and do central locking, it makes perfect sense that it's an OEM part on a Fiat. thumbsup

This is one of Liz's relays I got as a spare because I'm paranoid.

You will notice that there is a pin discrepancy over the original lotus part, but as this came off a car I guess it doesn't matter ?

Dunno. Depends on whether the relay holder is usually wired up for all 6 terminals on the relay. If it is, it might be a problem if your car is wired for the "standard" layout. Is your relay the size of the rest of the relays? If it is and it does work, that would be handy as I'd like to fit a new relay box to include the normal boot relays, the charge cooler relay, wideband relay and probably a water injection system relay and none of them can cope with the size of the yellow relay.

Its an oversized relay like the original yellow one. Other spares shown for comparison.

I've got both a black relay from Liz coming and a yellow relay as identified by Ed. I'll report back.

(what's the worst that can happen?)

Bigger issue for me is sourcing the brown relay - I eventually found mine on the ground next to my car, full of water. It's AMR1088 as used on the original defender and a TVR. Not easy to locate, suspect they'll become the next problem relay after the yellow one.

Minor detail writestuff. Any yellow relay with 6 pins is now under suspicion.
