Hi Guys

I've got a leak from my near-side front caliper bleed screw, which I've just replaced for a new item, can anyone tell me if there is meant to be an o-ring fitted during replacement?

Paul

It's just a tapered seat on the nipple. Imagine a counter sunk screw head screwed into a counter sunk piece of metal. Did it start leaking after you put a new nipple in or before ? Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk

Yep thought that was the arrangement, just making sure that i wasn't meant to fit an o-ring too.

It started leaking afterwards. I had to replace it as i was flushing the brake fluid and the nipple was rounded & seized.

If I remember rightly, there is usually a ring between the caliper & nipple with a tag to keep the nipple cap attached... noticed on your FB photos that this is missing... not entirely sure whether it is intended to be a functional seal, or just something to hang the cap off?

I had the same problem but with an old nipple in the front.

I put the nipple in a drillmachine and did some turning with fine(600) sandpaper on the cone.

Unsure Ormes, the off-side is the same however the rears have the arrangement that you've said.

I think many nipples break because people with leaks try to tighten the nipple to hard to get rid of the leak, the result will be shagged threads or a broken nipple and a bigger problem.

the rubberring is not a seal, only there to hold the cap when its of.

Yes Mazzokie....the lil bugger that came out (eventually) was stripped at the bottom.

Ive ordered another couple from Demon Tweaks to see if that solves my problem, if not....i will get the sandpaper to it.

Failing that...new caliper i guess :-(

The angle of the taper can be different between nipples. Compare old to new as a starting point. Sent from my SM-G903F using Tapatalk

Yes, I'd order the nipples from Vauxhall/Autovaux, not thieves

Thanks for the advice chaps. The replacement came from elise-parts which I thought would have been cosha. Hopefully the DT ones will arrive tomorrow morning and I will update you.

I'm assuming it's leaking through the bleed hole and not the threads? If it is the threads I would try PTFE tap, if it is the bleed hole I would try what Mazzokie said and sand down the cone so it can be screwed in further.

Brake fluid will degrade PTFE tape

I didn't know that, I use it when I replace nipples so I can get a vacuum when bleeding the brakes :/

Permatex might be better.

Ap racing 2-pot calipers require specific bleeding nipples. I would also fit ap rubber caps at the same time to avoid rust in the long run. I have bought both from Elise-shop: http://www.elise-sho...s-p-354092.html http://www.elise-sho...s-p-502949.html

Brilliant Chacha!

Ive just looked that the ones i got from eliseparts and they have a flat on the the bottom of the nipple unlike the elise-shop ones & the old one that came out.

Worth filing the new ones down to a point or just pay the silly postage from elise-shop?
