Hi guys - thought I would join up as I currently on the hunt for one. I have seen a couple online, but many are so far away. Thankfully this one came up in Edinburgh (20 minute drive away for me)

http://www.cardealwa...54a56b78a21df4/

The reg is: NX53 UVY - possibly a member owned it on here?

However, I wasn't too impressed by the price as the tyres and pads are all pretty low. I took the check-list guide I found on here which helped a lot! Engine seemed responsive enough, plenty of service receipts, parts, etc. The service history is missing 2007-2010 and the last three services are just hand written in the service book with no dates or mileage :( that makes me a bit suspicious... Also, the K&N cone filter looks a good few years old and doesn't seem to have been cleaned since it's been on the car.

I know the front bonnet catch is a known issue - how do you open it when the handle is literally hanging by a thread??

I'd love to know your thoughts, I think the one above might be a lemon. My budget is no more than £9000

Thanks,

Tye

hello and welcome,

don't be put off by traveling to see good ones, theses cars are few and far between.

for the N/A you need the timing and balancer chains done, that's the receipt you need to look for

the one you linked looks to have a vse exhaust

pads are cheap and rubber is rubber and I would not let that put me off if the car is solid, they are service items

Thanks for the reply - you aren't wrong there, it is a struggle to find these in decent nick! The good thing about this one is that the timing chain has been done in 2013, i remember seeing the receipt for it - I assume the balancer chains would have been done too.

Yeah it does, Very loud. haha. I guess the fact it comes with a hard top as well is a bonus.

Hi, good luck on the hunt, there's a few of us up here but I got lucky with one that came up in Clackmannan just along the road. Be prepared to travel a bit for a decent one. Or use the negative points there to barter, would seem a decent motor for 8k...

Yeah I said I would take it for £8k but they wouldn't budge on the price, they would only throw in a year's warranty.

Ive had three VXs and none have been closer than 4 hours drive away. My first was based in Southampton. Thats a bit of a trek from Edinburgh. These cars, more often than not, have niggles that can be pretty easily solved. Dealers usually cant be arsed to sort though, and its zero surprise to hear that Car Deal Warehouse are in that bag.

This is a great forum, with lots of folk willing to nip over and have a look (as HH mentions), or know of history/issues of cars. Dont be afraid to ask  thumbsup

As for the bonnet catch, its a GM part, in a bent metal bracket. A very rough and ready way to open it is grabbing the end of the cable with a set of pliers and pulling. The other takes a bit of contorting under the dash to make sure the catch is hinging properly.

Yeah this seems like a great place and I'm sure it will come in handy when I do eventually get one! I'm not too bothered about where it is in the country, I would quite happily fly or get the train to one that is in mint condition for the right price.

Nice to see a couple of other scottish members on here, everyone seems to be all over the place.

I had this car a long long time ago.

It would be good to see where it ended up
