Afternoon all

Well you will see from my last post on here back in 2012 that I was contemplating a return to VX ownership to coincide with a 30th birthday driving holiday to the Ring. Despite best intentions I ended up buying a Honda S2000 GT for the trip which I must say performed faultlessly and probably had a smidgen more practicality for two passengers than the VX?!?

Anyhow since the Honda there have been numerous different vehicles gracing the drive, partly because I love cars and there are still so many I would like to own and partly because different times in my life have sort of dictated what I/we need so that may give you some explanation behind a couple -

Posted Image

Posted Image

So fast forward to now and having just sold the E46 M3 convertible I was looking for a B7 RS4 so whilst hunting for one I found this Liquid Yellow Clio 200, I decided to buy the Clio to keep me mobile in the meantime and also because I had always wondered what the hype surrounding these little French cars was about. Well! What a car! No wonder it won so many drivers awards and can be found at trackdays every weekend its incredible and has got right under my skin. To the extent that i have completely re-evaluated what I want from our next car. I was originally looking at the RS4 as an all round family wagon with a wicked turn of speed, although since selling the M3 my wife has got a new job and now has a '15 plate Passat which is expensed and we can both drive it - thats the family wagon ticked off!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Which meant that the parameters for my next car were suddenly blown wide open! I also run a little Citroen C1 which is worth nothing but similarly costs nothing to run and is ideal for trips to the dump, taking the dog out etc. The Clio has made me realise the joy of driving comes from uncomplicated engines and supreme handling, you don't need to be doing three figure speeds to enjoy driving and the novelty of point and squirt soon wears off. The Clio is a free raving NA engine mated to an incredible chassis with a reduced steering rack and some cracking brakes. So this is what I am after from my next cart and the searching began. So it got me thinking, I had a look at the possibility of an Exile but couldn't believe the prices they are fetching, then considered an Elise S2 but it doesn't quite do it for me, although I might look at a couple in the flesh - I think a lot with the Elise is the right colour and wheels combination.

So that train of thought brought me back to the VX, I proper loved my NA every journey we went on was an event, turn the heater on and get a face full of grit, fix that by nicking one of the wives tights and putting it over the inlet, open the door and get a wet leg, laugh at friends trying to limber in, forget how hot the exhaust gets and melt the ice cream after a quick supermarket shop the list is endless it holds many many memories for me. I think the VX design is timeless and still when I see one I have to double take.

Whether it ends up being a Turbo this time or an NA which has been Supercharged the hunt is on and I will keep you posted how I get on, I always found this a friendly forum before with loads of help and advice on hand so hello again and heres a few pics of the old girl –

I think it will have to be forced induction whether that be Turbo or SC I am not sure, lucky enough to have driven a Turbo and a VXR220 and the boost was addictive but read so many good things about the SC conversions.

Would be interesting to find someone who has owned both for an opinion on how they compare?

The S2K is a very different proposition thats for sure but in its own right a very good car, I miss every journey being an event though, I can still remember the journey home in my NA fro London in great detail, it was a car that generated so many memories for me.

The only issue I have at our current house is lack of garage so may have to investigate covers or perhaps find a garage to rent.

So nearly 3 years to the day since posting this 'returning to the fold' and it looks like tomorrow I might actually be doing so........What happened 3 years ago was an unexpected house move in order to sort some schooling catchment area stuff  thumbsup which is now done and house we moved has been 'housed' and become a home.

The family Merc C Class estate has gone now 'little' one is 8 and doesn't have as much stuff and no longer requires a car seat - this was the key! So a faithful MK6 Golf TDi replaced the Merc for daily duties and I set about looking to fill the weekend void. Didn't help that two friends recently bought VX's and allowed me a dirve - that was it, deal done!

So scanning the classifieds I nearly strayed several times looking at other 2 seater roadsters but I just couldn't get the VX experience out of my head. I wanted something I could tinker with, fettle, mod, clean and enjoy on sunny days and the other options all had scare stories associated with them and I just knew they wouldn't provide the visceral experience the VX does EVERYTIME!

So it looks like my scouring has paid off, not too much info right now until the key is in my hand but I am chuffed with what I have seen and heard and reckon this time tomorrow a VX will be sat on the drive.

Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  rallly

Si
