Hi .org... Recently bought a GoPro Hero 4 Silver and took it on a track day to Castle Combe, using the built in mic and a skeleton case. As you can see (/hear), the sound is inconsistent, regularly cuts out with distortion and "booming" noises etc. Do TADTS, and so I need to get an external mic, or do I have a problem with the unit? I've got the 4black and it doesn't do that. Off the top of my head I can't recall any mic settings that can be altered so won't be anything you've changed. For comparison, this was recorded in an open case and no external mic https://youtu.be/mQ5uFpn8IY8 Edit, the excessive wind noise is due to no roof.

Something definately isn't right... Yours has terrible wind noise (as you'd expect in the circumstances), but no inconsistencies at all... mine is terrible. Dogs cock... how do I go about explaining this to the orangutan in Currys PC World May phone GoPro first.

Usually they're not bad with returns, load up a sample video on your phone or tablet so they can hear the problem.

Well, I take it all back... Currys were actually really good about it... looked at the videos on the SD card, agreed it didn't sound right, and gave me a brand new one! Thanks again Dave for your help
