Multitude of threads in the project section relating to upping power, but I'm looking for a simple guide or help to get somewhere near 300hp. I know I need to do some twattery with the engine, cooling should be ok from st2, running an m62 so maybe a different pulley, any ideas on cost and bits appreciated. Budget around 4K. Was thinking of getting shot of the Vx and heading down a different route, but a blast out today made me rethink as the handling was just bob on. Miltek exhaust and cat restricts my current st2 to just over 240bhp on the rollers. Nice n quiet, but that's got to go. Got a shiny Larini gathering dust in the garage but that's useless so that's going up for sale with the miltek. All the bling, and nothing lol. On the Courtney map atm, figure Dutch route next for st3 best? Apart from the awful drive to Norfolk for mapping, there seems to be quite a crowd on here and Europe who have matured that set up :) Help and advice appreciated. Cheers.

If you only want 300ish then get a 2.5" tullet to keep noise down on track. 3" for future proofing and when you buy that harrop. ;) Budget £2000 for exhaust though. Forged pistons and rods about £750 from states. New chains and water pump will be around £350+ Head gasket, head bolts and what not £150+ Engine build £350+ Re bore £200-300 Fitting £3-500 Probably want new lambdas so £150 Bigger injectors £150-180 Fuel pump £200-250

a cheaper alternative to making it quicker is to fit a 4.17 FD gearbox instead, I find the standard 3.95 bogs down after each gear change.

It is a slippery slope moving past 250bhp and your 4k budget will soon evaporate. Exchange rates are currently quite poor and the pistons / rods / cams do need to come from the states.

They are currently around £450 + £250 + £450 = £1150 + import duties of roughly £250. So £1400 just for those parts.

Dutch ecu sw is about £700

Full Tullet exhaust is now only just under £2000

Therefore your budget has already gone without any of the other stuff required

:o! i only paid £1500 for my 3" tullet and that included the 200 cell HJS cat which was £470 on its own, i cant believe they are so expensive now.

I was quite shocked when I saw the receipt

edit: that is for the 2.5" full system, not the 3"

With all that money being spend in engine preparement, you may as well also save some more pennies, put on a harrop and aim for 350 to 400.

I agree. I spoke to Vocky, Joe, Chris and Chill amongst others in considering the power v other stuff balance. I went for the close ratio box instead and although mine was broke when fitted I still think overall it's the best option and will be great once fixed. I am going for a different spend strategy and looking at other aspects of improvement, like weight reduction and driver training.

I think Rudy is feeling a little down on the get up and go from his car after we went out for a blast to Swanage yesterday, if it was my money Rudy and I was wanting the extra BHP I would buy the Sagaris you was on about and sell on the VX?? or alternatively place an add in the wanted section for a 300hp Supercharged buy that then sell your car on??

I will sell you my automatic metro if you like that will make you sh*t yourself when you accelerate.

Don't forget fitting of a 3 inch system. If others experience of a tullet exhaust manifold were like mine there was modification needed. If you can do all the labour yourself then great but when paying other people and the time involved The other things that add up is that after fitting forged internals you'll need to run it in. That's 3 oil changes within 1k miles and trip to Courtney or all the petrol and time on the dutch map. Sooo you do it all at once cause the man maths tell you it's cheaper than doing it in bits and then just ignore your credit card for a few months :D Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk

One other thing I would consider is the cost it things go kaboom. If the standard engine pops it's a (relatively) cheap fix to fit another one. The counter argument is that going for a forged spec effectively rebuilds it to new so it shouldn't fail. Horses for courses lol.

Thanks guys, helpful and informative as always :grouphug: Have to admit I didn't expect the parts (exhaust especially) to be as pricey as that, and as suggested might be better to just grab my balls and go up to s4 rather than p*ss away money. Did think 4K was a little low, but having priced up parts from similar builds on here, thought it might be in that ballpark - brexit and rates of exchange not considered! Lots to consider, incl moving the vx on and getting something already wired bigger as standard. Cheers again :)
