Hi!

I want to use anextra oil cooler to my car. Regelin have http://www.regelin-p...ster-turbo.html

Package contains:
Olicooler, Tubes, air-release-grid, items for fitting, special item to modify the oil thermostat.

Think its Little expensive, I have the tubes and I guess a 13row mocal oilcooler from ebay will be ok http://www.ebay.co.u...BEAAOxyOalTa6-F

My engine have previusly had the regelin oilcooler so i might have the modify in the thermostat and if not maybe it isnt necessery.

What is the "air-release-grid"?

Im hoping I just need to buy an oilcooler or am I just greedy?

Sorry for abusing the English language but it was long time since used it:-)

/Jim

the original german text says "Abluftgitter"

"air release grid" is just a woeful translation

whats probably included (but not pictured) is an air vent to mount somewhere to let the warm air escape

an oil cooler is not rocket science. the 'complicated' part is getting the right hoses and fittings to suit the cooler core. if you can manage that, its a piece of cake

In short, Chris has found out that his oil cooler kit, changes the behavior of the oil filter bypass. The oil is not filtered any more !!!

I have had the kit installed for 3 years, my oil temperatures are very low... Normal driving 63C, Spirited driving 69C, Hooning 73C. Track never above 95C.

From what I've understood (in my broken French and the translate) the capacity of the oil changes (longer circuit added) and that affects the pressures the oil pump reaches. So it will by-pass directly inside.

I'm not really sure what to think about this all after I've read this... Should I remove it?

Maybe we could ask Regelin?

Ask him, and let us know.

I am keen on an oil cooler on my setup as I suspect my oil temps get too high.

Did you log your oïl pressure ?

For the same oïl temp and same rpm did you already see different pressure values ?

If so, this mean your oïl filter by-pass is opening, due to the additionnal head loss of the oïl cooler system ...

No, I don't have a logging system like you do  :tt:.

Just an meter which imho never go under 3.5 or over 5.5 ;)

These are hight values

Moreovern when the by-pass is open a part of the oïl don't go through the oïl cooler circuit and impurities go directly into the engine ...

Yes, I've understand that from the Swiss Speedster forum post.

Since there is no fix, probably my best bet to remove the oil cooler for safety.

If you are sure your by-pass is opening a solution would be to set differently  the oïl filter by-pass ...

(put a wedge to constrain the spring)
