Less than a year ago I fitted a brand new Larini Backbox and race pipe to my car and I've loved it ever since. Whilst driving on the Motorway on Saturday afternoon I heard a loud noise. When I got home I noticed that the Tailpipes had dropped approximately 2 inches (They are now resting on the Clam). I have taken the Undertray off and inspected today and found a 2 inch by 3/4 inch hole ripped in my Exhaust, and the Heatshield has been bent by the Exhaust dropping. Also the paint around there the Tailpipes are now sat is badly burned.

Damage caused to paintwork on rear Clam

I have emailed Larini requesting that they sort this out and I am waiting on a response. This has led me to question the quality of the exhausts they produce. Is anyone aware of any similar issues with Larini Exhausts?

Sorry to see this. In my opinion, the heatshield would have been cut to install the exhaust as the pipe is larger than standard. Did you fit it yourself or did someone else? Bit hard to see the damage to the paintwork but I'd say you're justified in being pissed off. I also have a full Larini system from the group buy last year and remember there did seem to be some quality control issues at Larini. I know one guy had to send a part back as they hadn't got a radius right on one of the bends so it wouldn't fit correctly. If Larini don't get back to you, Elise-shop are now the only UK distributor for VX220 Larini exhausts. The manager there is named Yvo Tuk. Dont expect much sympathy or compensation from him though. He sent me the wrong part initially (one that was considerably cheaper) which I fitted before realising it was incorrect. Apparently it was my fault for not checking.

Hi Cressey, mine is from that same group buy and I also recall a few people mentioning issues with their exhausts. I had a garage fit the exhaust, they made the hole larger but it has been bent from the backbox dropping. Sorry the picture of the rear isn't great, the space behind my car in the garage is very limited. Basically the bottom lip and part the way up the sides has browned considerably

I'd say the heat shielding really isn't anything to worry about as it'll just bend back. That slit isn't normally present when a standard exhaust is fitted, it's just a hole. The garage would have cut the slit, bend the heatshield to get the pipe in place and then bent it back round. That's pretty much all you can do. Yvo Tuk from Elise-shop was the guy that sorted the group buy after Jezza contacted him. I'd be tempted to call him, send him some pics and then ask him what he intends to do about it. It's failed where the bracket has been welded to the pipe so it looks like excessive weld penetration by the manufacturer. It's 100% a manufacturing defect so don't accept any crap from them.

The Heat Shielding is last on my list of worries. Thanks for confirming what I thought about manufacturing defect. I'll give Larini a day or two to get back to me then I'll give him a go thanks

Yeah they do, which is why I'm especially disappointed that mine has fallen to bits after less than a year

To be fair I thought that their customer service was pretty poor, took me about 4 months to sort my tailpipe issue out, like Cressey says kick some ass and don't surrender

I hope you get it sorted. If I was in your shoes I would be asking them to pay to respray the rear and a new exhaust.

This happened to me, my tail pipe actually came off, didn't cause any damage but did cost my over 100 quid for a new one. Yvo Tuk would not honour a replacement, can't remember but think it was the clamp that failed.

Good luck... but that heatshield has definitely been cut with some tin snips. If the exhaust had caused that there would be crush marks all over the leading edge.

To be honest I suspect that it was cut during the install and then gently closed back together. The dropping of the exhaust has merely brushed the two edges apart.

As for that failed section of exhaust behind the weld.  :o
