This morning on the drive to work I pulled out of a junction and gave the VXT some medium throttle only to be greeted with a LOT of misfiring and a engine management light, which stayed on.

My initial thought was water had got into the coil/spark plugs ( i washed the car yesterday ), however I had a look and everything looked bone dry in there.

I've read that I should remove the coil pack and spark plugs and clean them up in case water is sitting under the pack. I have had a bit of misfiring under heavy load in 4th/5th gear as well, figured that I would get some new plugs and just put them in as I've got no idea how old the current ones are.

What should I be running for a stage4 turbo? It's got a Courtney stage4 map if that makes any difference.

I used to run coppers in my 330BHP 3SGTE, 1 grade cooler than stock. BKR7E. It ran like complete turd with Iridium, I guess that's not the case with the VX?

I see the standard plug for the Z20LET is BKR5EK, does that mean I should just go one colder and get BKR6EK? Or do I need 2 colder with stage 4?

I could check what is already in there right now, but I was hoping to go and pick up a set on my way home. :tt:

Your coil-pack might need replacing possibly, they don't last long on hot engines.

Good to know, thanks. I'll start with plugs as they are cheaper and then if it continues I'll replace the pack!

Is it recommended to go with Iridium over the standard platinum?

The Z20LET isn't particularily plug sensitive, so I dont hink it matters a great deal. The important thing to do is reduce the electrode gap, stage 4 cars might want to get down to about 0.7mm (maybe even 0.6mm) to allow the spark to jump the gap under pretty high DCR at full boost.

I run my own 500pack so more like a stage 5, think I have #8 in mine, gapped to 25 thou

or it could be a fuel injector bad plug connection, do you have traction control added to the loom?

Wow 370 ft/lb? I only use 340 ft/lb myself most of the time!

Have you got a dyno plot with a list of modified parts to achieve this please?

no I have not, but data logging on track revealed for the first time I now flow more air mass than the 80mm housing can meter, so time to change that, there are some 90mm bosch ones fitted as oem.

Is this on your own car with standard pistons + rods ?

The so called 80mm housing's I/D is only something like 72mm if I remember correctly.

exactly, the french E10 fuel will cope , except at high rpm when I noticed a bit of KR ignition timing retard on the rev limit changing gears 3rd-4th. It went away on 98, so don't think its the ignition system and high load. Plugs in there are a bit old, I normally change them each year as a cheap consummable.
