Hi everyone,

I seem to remember a similar question on here a while back, can't remember what the op bought in the end.

So I'm thinking 50, maybe stretch a little bit.

Initial thoughts are Cayman, new TTRS, used R8.

I've had an early Cayman and really liked it, a few TT's, loved those.

Would a 50k R8 be a financial money pit to run?

Interested in peoples experiences.

Tim

Good friend having previous tt RS and new rs3 would say by far the cheapest to run and maintain Med10.1.1 ecu sure makes the most of the 5 pot lump With software very quick but other cars will give more reward been typical Audi 😊 DG

Weekend car I assume? If 'daily' then GTR or R8, if weekend then something more interesting.

Good point, I know the TTRS will be quick at 3.7 secs to 60 but worrying it will not feel special enough.

I'll have a nosey at F-types

911 turbo a good shout, but seen some scary repair bills with them. If I go the Porsche route I think it'd be a later Cayman S with big spec.

Did someone mention Alfa?.. Always loved them, never owned one.

Yes, purely a toy, sorry should have said.

And I'm 45, not sure if that matters? lol

Honda Nsx, will probably make you money during your ownership too, unless you just want modern performance and then it would be a Gtr.

Just dont get a Cup, you may find the support from Lotus Motorsport a bit sketchy.

Cayman will come in well under budget. Look for decent spec don't get drawn into buying a Cayman R they are rubbish but a decent S with PASM and as many options as you can get is a fantastic car. Evoras are OK but they share the issue of the v6 ie long gearing. V6 I would have loved one but they are just a bit "meh". Shame. There are one or two very high end S2 exiges for sale at the moment a 260 CUP and a gp special edition both awesome variants of the breed. R8 is on my hit list but got funds tied up in an aircooled 911 project currently. I'm told they are a bit "meh" as well though. Unfortunately as I always say when you have owned a good vx or Elise you are buggered for anything after. You can spend a lot of money on stuff that is bigger and makes lots of noise but us just not as good to drive. With 50k I think it would need to have a porsche badge on the nose for me. They have nailed that sector.

That is so true, had three of them over a few years so kept going back for more.

I must say I am leaning towards the Cayman, even though I've already had an early one, it did feel quite special, and that noise..

I prefer the more modern pork. I think the turbo 996 only gained reaction because it's the only pre 2009 porsche that doesn't have a chocolate engine :D

Is there a TVR around £50k nowadays, never driven one but in my mind as exciting as a VX/Elise/Exige

If you're going to go with that era of Porsche then it has to be a turbo, its about the only ones which don't grenade themselves.
