Two purposes to this post, 1 to see if theres anything available, but 2 more importantly to get the knowledge of the forum to help better inform of a good/fair price I should be expecting to need to save for car I want.

My wants arent too complex, a Turbo, any colour, any mileage, any number of owners, but non CAT.

The vast majority I see available come with their comprehensive list of modifications.  For some people, this is a turn on, whereas for me it is not.  While I would prefer to have no modications, I wouldnt turn one down with them, should It be an affordable price.  But which of the two is more likely to cost more? I havent spent enough time looking to see if sellers want to recouporate the vast sums they have spent on added extras, or if it is the value of being as standard that commands a higher price?

With all this in mind, I want to own one as soon as I can afford to, what is a low amount I can look to pay *i have plenty of time to look/save* for simply a Non-Cat Turbo?

mods 'tend' to add little to no value to a car, but they adjust the desireability... Good or bad depending on the outlook.

Things like wheels can easily be swapped back to normal and the "fancy" ones sold for a profit.

Some other mods are pointless to remove, like brakes or certain dampers (coilovers)

I would suggest that you PM jonnyboy of "Jon Seal Sportscars" he has some of the best examples around - not cheapest but best.

Plus your question of how much is an impossible one to answer - but generally condition, history and mileage dictate price, age is a low priority with these.

Quite simply "you pays your money you takes your pick"   :D

Well i have 8.5/9k depended on what I could get for my current car.  If something simply perfect for me arose, i could dip into the house savings, but i'd prefer to keep that ring fenced.  So the pot will just build going forward.  But like i said, I want to be driving a VX soon, perhaps early 2017.

I've havent seen a non CAT turbo for under 12k yet.   Apart from the crazy 8k one on this forum, that the seller went quiet on a little while ago.

12k is about right  -  my suggestion is buy in the depths of winter as the prices sharply escalate from February to October, leaving a small opportunity for a reduced (not bargain by any means) price opportunity.

Fact is they are thin on the ground, so unless your prepared to put serious graft in you WONT get anything of a bargain like you might on a mass produced car.

If 12 is the price, then 12 is the target. I just wanted to know what to set my goal at. Going forward, I'll know how much more I will need to be saving. Thanks guys :)

That crazy low price one from London was a hoax probably , you get a turbo for 11k bit rough but spend 12k an get a good one on an 2003-2004 Get the 2005 or the last ones made the 2006 an pay 13-14-15 k

I was recently helping my friend look for a turbo, he kept having to up his budget as there was nothing that was non-cat for under £12k. I think based on that recent experience you need at least £12k to find even a half decent example. Prices will differ vastly regardless if the car is standard, slightly modified or heavily modified, it all comes down to history and condition of an idividual car, if you want a top car you will have to pay top money. As someone else mentioned Jonnyboy normally has good examples. Including a low mileage standard turbo at the moment for £18k.

Are there any differences between the models dependant on which year they came out?

No not really just that 2005-2006 turbos you pay more for as being the last of the production . 52 reg turbo is earliest one an rare , but 2003 are common to see . If you get an opportunity now in winter for a cheap one be quick as their prices go up after Xmas .

No it wasnt. It sold to somebody on the forum and ended up on eBay with a nice little mark up. £12k-15k is average pricing for non cat tubbys but there will be some £10k cars around during the winter months I'm sure. The sub £10k non cats go very quick when they come up but they do come up now and then.
