Alternative = make your own out of sheet aluminium, a vice/bender and some pop rivets. Easy really and will cost you £10 instead of £xxx.

I'm not sure you really need a heat shield at all. I don't have one on my car, just exhaust wrap keeps the heat in the pipes + turbo.

The one around the rear wheel failed on mine so I just removed it. A while later a CV joint failed. The car is old, but hasn't done a great deal of miles and CV joints in a rear wheel drive car have a much easier time than in a front wheel drive car. The cv joint boot was ok - just bad knocking.
I don't know if it was at all related (seems unlikely) but when I replaced the driveshaft I heat wrapped the pipe. As Nev wrote, you don't need to replace like with like. Heat wrap is much easier and cheaper than trying to source components for a now ancient car. 18 months later it's still in the same place doing its job.
