Good afternoon.

Im currently collecting parts for my Supercharger (Build thread on the way) and have been looking into the PCV valve fitted in the LSJ inlet.  I looks the same as that fitted to Saabs and from what i see is another emission control through burning off any oil vapour from engine casing, preventing vent to atmosphere.

The valve on mine is shot and air can pass either way so the system has failed.  This has caused oil contamination of the cooler fins and being such a fine setup it doesn't take much.

My question is this, has anyone blanked the pcv in manifold and pipe from inlet pipe and run a catch tank from cam cover or is it best to just replace the valve (if so, where is best to get them?)?

My biggest worry is if doing this causing over pressurisation somewhere within.

Many thanks

There are some major threads on this (often by Chill), best to find them and read them rather than starting a whole new one.

Thanks. I've been searching for a bit and have found nothing conclusive as to best route.

I've found a few to look at searching 'positive crankcase'. I'll have a read then ask for folks opinion as to which they use.

I have drilled into the cam cover above the head's PCV outlet and run a hose to a catch tank then a hose from the tank to the supercharger for vacuum. Got some baffles and wire wool in there to help condense the oil vapor and stop it making its way into the inlet tract that way.

On the top breather I have split this into two with check valves on it, one allows clean air in through a filter and the other goes to another catch tank vented to air. Helps to stop manky oil vapor being spat out under load all over the filter then immediately drawn back in under vacuum.

Thanks for the info.  After lots of reading of various forum threads I've come up with nothing conclusive to give me a reason to keep the PCV.  So I'm looking to seal valve in the inlet, fit larger pipe to cam cover and fit a catch tank.

The failed PCV had made a mess of the laminova and looking at the size of the fins I dont think it would take much even with a working PCV to clog up.  Seems a waste to fit a chargecooler system and then block it up with oil vapour from crankcase.

Is anyone running this exact setup and have they had any issues?  Thanks again.

I have blocked pcv (just left the manifold gasket as is) and standard size cam cover pipe to a catch tank. The outlet then goes to the back of the car. I get no oil on the rear of the car in normal use and only a small amount after hard track use. I empty the catch tank of shitty water twice a year. No issues for me. I think this is a pretty standard approach..?

That's great. Thanks. I'll get it blocked before I fit it. How did you block it off? Does standard gasket cover it or did you fill in pcv valve?

Sound, nice one. What did block valve with? Will filling end with araldite do it?

you can simply block the PCV port by removing the cam cover and filling the central hole in the cylinder head, above the inlet manifold, with a suitable material - liquid metal is good.

Cheers mate. Will welding hole up in the 'charger inlet manifold do the same thing?
