Hi All,

recently purchased a VX220 NA and it has the Larini back box and sports cat etc.  Looking and searching on the forum it sounds as though that this will be too much for many of the UK tracks.

rather than going to the expense and hassle of changing the Larini, I was hoping some members would have some experiences with the various exhaust mufflers / sound reducers / DB Slayers that are out there. Esentially mods that you attach to the tail pipes that purport to reduce the noise DB levels.

Is this a good a compomise? A waste of time and cash? Or should i just bite the bullet and find a OEM VXT back box?

The irony is that my local track, knockhill, is in the middle of the Scottish countryside so no noise limits, but i do want to try Croft, Oulton Park, Anglesey and other tracks where no doubt the noise (which i think currently is epic on the road!) will be an isse.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Remove Larini back box. Put in larger silencer which is easy, no need to take off rear clam btw. Noise levels reduced to acceptable 👍

Gotta be careful of those dB reducers, they can raise back pressure a LOT, some of which can be adjusted for by your ECU, but not all of it if the restriction is huge. Nett effects could be high running temps, melted cylinder head/exhaust valves, HG failure, bad fueling possibly.

You will be fine at Anglesey as they never test, no chance at the other two though. Have never understood the appeal of a loud exhaust but each to their own.

Andy, a Milltek would also be a reasonable option. Not as quiet as standard but very track friendly (as long as you don't put supercharged power through one since the extra heat will destroy the baffles)

Thanks Paul, will look at them. Maybe someone on here wants to do a deal who has a std box, not interested in tracking, so would like the extra noise of the Larini. It does sound good! ;)

Andy Have you checked the cars noise level as I had it checked last year and was less then Crofts rate 0f 105db, and haggi961 vx 400hp plus is nosier then your vx and he is allowed on Croft. It does sound good though with the Larini.

Ive done croft, oulton and anglesey this year with no issues

and run a 380hp sc car but if your in any doubt get the back box changed

i do have a single exit with exhaust extension 90 degree bend with a db killer in the end but this cost me hp

its not pretty but it helps

croft is a unusual one as i think it goes on some sort of average sound

but one of the locals or mike will probably know more

is it worth chopping the end of and repacking it with new material ......?

My piper  2.5'system with a 421 manifold a 200 cel cat gets louder over time and started off very track friendly !

Ive repacked it once now and it was good but that was 2 years ago and its getting louder

I did Bedford this year and was close but not too close.

its just a thought ...maybe its worth just having the ability to service the back box on a regular interval.

I might be well off key here but its working for me at the mo
