Happy new year guys

Ive got another head thats had some work done to it and also another set of cams for it.

Id like to swap it over next time the chain needs a change.

Question is will the car be driveable with having a new map ??

It could take me some time to get a new ecu

Thoughts please

you would need higher ignition settings at sub 2500 rpm

all dependant on how aggresive the cams are

piper cams = oem timed , so ok to run without mapping (but most gained with a mapping)

ALL other cams: Cat cams, Dbilas,Comp cams, etc.... will give power LOSS due incorrect timing . (All own experiences)

Have you got the info on the cams? The lift and duration?

But can you time them and run them without mapping ?

Yes, but not full power will be achieved, bad idling,etc.....All depends which cams you want to use. My experiences were mild Cat cams and stage 1 comp cams.... All made loss without (correct) mapping and or timing. This was in NA mode.(non headwork) grtz

Mine ran fine with Schrick cams ported head raised compression oversized valves and a 2.4 inlet manifold. BUT the remap made a massive difference to power after all that work. Long term fuel trims were maxed out but no lean error codes. So avoid to much WOT driving.

An off the shelf cam change is rarely anything extreme usually. Only when you go above about 285 or 290 duration will you see serious idle problems, and perhaps some medium fueling issues.

Head back from machine shop today Fast road piper cams New valves and seals 3 angles cut into the head ( what ever that means 😝) Inlet ported and polished. Gonna take it for a power run on a Dyno on Friday ... Then again after the head swap I'm not expecting much gain to be honest as I know the gains are in the map. I will post results Friday night.

Guessing that three angles refers to the valve seat angles.  We used to cut the upper and lower angles of the valve seat insert first and second, then the middle angle was made third / last as a very light cut leaving just a thin line for the actual seat.  This was always said to give the best gas flow but, the thinner the middle cut the greater the risk of valve seat burning.
