Started racing at the end of last year and I just hired a transponder for those last few races (although at the last race the time keeper got in a huff as he said their box of 40 transponders were for emergency hire, I would have thought it would make sense for him to hire as many out as he could every race)

I have a minimum of 4 races this year so given that that is £120 worth of hire I should get one really.
Where is best to find an older none subscription one now though?

Cheers

Ebay I suppose but they seem to go for big money now. There's some on there for £350 to £400. I did hear a rumour though that the system is being changed in a year or two and they wont work. You're welcome to borrow mine but I dont want to sell.

Paul Golding sent me a link to these which actually don't seem too bad priced.

I'm in the same position. Ebay looks expensive and I've read different views on whether the older style will be supported going forward so will probably just get a newer one on subscription. The confusing bit is why the direct wired ones are more expensive than the rechargeable version. Surely it's much cheaper to add a wire than a battery and charger.

Because IME people prefer the hard wired ones so the demand is more so they charge more for them. Hard wired is just fit and forget, no cocking around with charging, charge running out in use, re-fitting

Agreed. Classic case of pricing to what the market will pay when there's a choice a just 1 supplier... Having said that, I want the hard wired version.

Did you go for one of these in the end or have you managed to pick up one of the older non-subscription ones?

You can check they are putting out a single by putting them next to an am radio tuned off station.

Not got any yet.

I've bought that set of wheels with new RSRs you tagged me in Mark. Will order a set of rainsports now and sell those new tyres!

Pretty much what I did too. I got a rechargeable x2 with 1 yr subscription from here: http://www.tsl-timing.com/Store Hoping to pick up a hard wired non-sub version over the next 12 months at a more sensible price. They're in high demand at the moment as everyone prepares for the season.
