Hello all :) I am new here - I have been lurking for a while...

I got for my wife a nice Mk1 MX5 which ended up with 300hp, a GT2871 and the later VVT engine fully rebuilt and forged... It was quite the fun toy!

Alas the finishing touch was to be a respray, and while at the bodyshop it was rudely stolen :(

So, after much soul searching (and waiting for the bodyshop insurance to cough up) I have decided what I really need is a VX220 turbo to replace it. I have my eye on one, but am still waiting for the money to arrive, once it does, I'll be getting involved! On two other small notes some may know me from the Rota group buy - I work for Rota Wheels UK :) The final note as a long time member of the SXOC (joined in 2006) and the previous owner of 7 200SXs of various types, I am a regular at their events - which are usually the highlight of my year car-wise...  This year they've booked Rockingham and I thought I would also share that good news in case anybody wanted to come along and give me a decent benchmark for how badly I am driving my VX220 I am plotting to be there in!  Here's the details for anybody interested:

http://sxoc.com/vbb/...ck-and-Drift!!!

So that's me, here I am, please be gentle, I look forward to getting to know some of you! Cheers Ben

I am interested in a quick car, I am looking for something ready for trackdays so suspension, decent brake pads etc, and any cooling upgrades and nice tyres. Also I'd like to have more than standard power - I want to be the limiting factor for as long as possible before getting keen to start messing with it!

don't want to step on Lucas toes here but I have a track ready VX220 for sale, white so only 4 in the country and its SC stage 2 so quick enough, scope for improvement as you seem to like modding.

No toe stepping here - I like to look at all the options and will be giving Lucas a call.

I have had 2 supercharged MX5s, and the delivery wasn't really my bag - that and the noise...

Which is louder generally, the NA or Turbo cars, I was assuming the NA as the turbo silences things certainly when I changed one MX5 from Supercharged to Turbocharged the noise from the exhaust dropped a lot, which was a boon for trackdays.

Funnily enough she was on the insurance - although she didn't drive it a huge amount.  That is mostly because I kept breaking it.

This was the MX5 in action before the big engine build... And this was it being killed to death and thus needing the build :( Turns out Goodwood for a trackday isn't actually very fun, nice to cross off the 'to do' list, but as a track not that exciting... so I just kept on going round and round and round and slowly but surely cooked the car :( Not a mistake I hope to repeat!

I have a full air box so the SC noise is barley audible ;) fair enough on the power delivery, if you like that shove, the SC drives like an NA but with just twice the power. The common consensus on this forum is the SC is better for track and the Turbo is more fun on the road. The NA on a standard exhaust does not even register over a fart, once the exhaust is changed it can get LOUD (lorini & VSE) the turbo keeps things quit quieted but its all down to the system you use. My miltek has never registered above 96 db

That's food for thought for sure...

I need to do some more reading up on things, I had assumed the turbo would be easier to get more from, more easily, but every to fan of the scientific method given evidence to counter my previously held opinion I am happy to be convinced otherwise. :)

Get a drive / pax in all variants (NA, Turbo, SC, Stage 2 Turbo) then judge for yourself. Plenty of owners on here that will take you out. All are friendly (most of the time )

Hi Ben,

Its Chris from the group buy.

Nice to see you over here.

Infact I've been meaning to get in touch regarding the centre caps on the rear wheels but I've been too busy to even look at the VX.

Hello! I being based in sunny Devon there's usually not too many people around - but if I can, I'll certainly bother some kind folk for a passenger ride :) The SXOC which is my other OC I am part of I am the area rep for, so arrange the monthly meets and events - and shortly here will be a rolling road day in Somerset should anybody fancy it - always good to have a little healthy competition for the 200SX fraternity. Next week is looking like a final decision and payment from the stolen MX5, so then I'll be searching in earnest for the right car for me, which I believe to be a FI VX220, which exact one appears TBC at present.

the turbo is easier to get to 300bhp there is a tuning table someone made with estimated costs and power for NA, ITB, Turbo and SC
