Go through somewhere like Quidco or Topcashback. A couple of years ago I got full European breakdown cover with Green flag for about £70 but got £35 cash back. 👍

My only advice Chris is to be happy with the price before cash back just in case they don't pay out. And even when they do payout it can take several weeks if not months for them to do so. But I've had hundreds of pounds back over the last two to three years.

green flag, personal recovery (Wife and I)  covers anything we are travelling in (so all my cars and bikes, plus if you are travelling in a friend's car) just renewed £100.50, doesnt cover home start, but covers recovery (location of your choice (home or garage)) when they cannot fix it.  Put petrol in the diesel car a few weeks back, it covered taking the car to a garage, fuel drained, some more diesel added all at no cost, on my way about 90 mins after I made the call

ADAC - German AA but better, has English (some) pages on website, covers as before any vehicle you are travelling in. 89 Euros a year, European cover obviously good, includes recovery from the 'ring (which a lot don't). If you don't do Europe then others probably easier. Has agreement with AA in this country.

I have never had to use it so google it if you are interested!

AA. ~£25 a month for a two person which includes home start, basic parts cover and relay.

£25 is expensive but the service is very good. The cover covers you for any vehicle your in. I chose the AA because of the home start and relay. Home start means they will come out to your house for any issue, most people (and AA's cheap membership) only covers your once your 5 miles or more from home. This is great for my other half because I leave for work really early so if her car doesnt start I'm not home to fix it. Relay is really good, if they cant fix your car they will tow you home or to a garage of your choice with no mileage restrictions. They mean that to, I got towed from Scotland to Kent because I chose the tow me home option. It took all night and about 4 tow trucks but I got home after breaking down on a Sunday night and was at work for 8am.

Examples of what we've used them for are.... other half filled up screen wash at home and the bonnet wouldnt shut because of a stuck handle, she called them out via the app. I've been recovered from the M25 to cambridge because my gear linkage got stuck on a car I engine swapped, the scotland recovery, I got towed home after a brake caliper failed and smashed through a wheel, they re-wired a fuel lift pump on a modded car running bike carbs at the side of the road and jump started my daily after the battery died after a holiday.

I've looked at swapping to others but there are always caveats in the TC's that put me off. For example, some say they will only tow you home after a local garage has looked at the car and cant repair it. If you broke down on a Sunday in wales you could be waiting a long time to get home, especially when you know anything on a VX wont get fixed if the van man cant do it.

Just to update this thread I ended up going with Auto Aid Breakdown (on recommendation from MoneySavingExpert.)

Cover is for the individual rather than the car. No limitation on age or type of car, motorbikes, trailers, caravans, motorhomes covered.

Home start, onwards journey, accommodation etc all included. The price also gives your spouse the same cover. £42.54 for the year.

Any limitations on combined car and trailer length, that's how AA get round trailer cover, all cars and trailers are longer than their max length... Seems excellent value, half green flag which is good
