Evening

Anyone got any experience of the lovely issue of rural broadband companies like Voneus or Gigabit?

I am due to be moving soon to Devon and currently they get BT broadband but you couldn't surf a puddle with the connection speed let alone the web

Wifi broadband seems to be the best option for higher speed.

Voneus have been doing some good work with very rural communities and the claims are they can get 100mbps and I am due to speak with them to see what and when they are heading my way in Devon but intrigued to know what peoples experiences are if any.

TIA

I know people that use 3 as it allows you to tether with unlimited data.

Where we live, our village and surrounding villages can only get < 1mbs via BT lines and it kept decreasing week on week, was unstable and BT refused to accept that there were any problems. Two local guys took up the issue and started a company to provide broadband via microwave/wifi links (whatever the correct terminology is) beamed from an aerial on the top of local church's to an aerial receiver on the house. We now get 10mbs download and upload with a consistent service all for £20/month. They are looking to increase the speed but TBH 10mbs is sufficient for our needs. BT have recently been canvassing residents about signing up for fibre broadband which they plan to install in the next 6 months. So far most have told them to FRO 😄

Have you checked you've got a decent phone signal? Where we are, the EE map says that we have 4G & it should work inside, we don't, we occasionally see the 3G logo if we stand near a window & more often than not, have no signal. We use BT for broadband & get just over 4 meg, phone lines are over head until just over 20 yards away, any problems & openreach seem to be out here pretty quick unlike the service a couple of neighbours get who aren't with BT

There are subsidies out there for 4G broadband setups which work well for a number of people I know out in the sticks proper - but similar subsidies have also seen a lot of small villages getting FTTC before large parts of Exeter. You may be surprised at what you can get round these parts in terms of broadband - where is it you're going?  I play in a badminton league and as a result of which travel all over North and Mid Devon so can ask around if you like :)

Hey many thanks.  Its in a place called Blackborough very near to Dunkeswell Air field.  That would be very kind of you.

I would think up there you'll be fine, it's fairly high and when I have been to Dunkeswell at least I have had decent signal. Check this out also: https://www.connecti...somerset.co.uk/

Yes I am very familiar with the CDAS but as I am only moving now I missed the chance to register for the £500 voucher as I was not living there.

We are 4 miles from the junction box which is in Dunkeswell.  They currently get the lowest speed broadband in the world with BT.  Gigabit have been selected to do our area but it won't be for a while yet but I need to get something sorted in the meantime which I guess will be BT.

Ahh yes, sounds reasonable :) If it were me, I'd go with the 4G, and not bother with a landline - costs will then be similar as no line rental etc, and it'll be faster than ADSL anyway. I think the voucher scheme is coming back in April according to the site?

Been a while since I read through the updates to be fair. But thanks so much for your help. Really appreciate it.
