I was going to set the ride height of my VXT with my new Nitron NTR40 dampers with 450/550 springs. Quite soon I realised that the springs would become loose way before I reached the ride height of 130mm. Do these need helper springs to achieve that without the springs being all loose at full rebound? If so, then I think it sucks that Nitron doesn't deliver them with helpers or at least mention that you can't go lower than OEM ride height (which is the limit in my case) without the springs being loose. In the front I could only lower it by 15mm before the springs came loose. That's on the limit to reach 120mm and that height might be achievable with 16 inch wheels. If I knew I had to pay extra for helpers I could might as well have bought the NTR46s or Quantums instead.

Have you got the damper mounts that help with lowering?

Thanks. However, getting helpers all around and eventually shorter springs for the front is quite a lot of money. Money that could have been spent on NTR 46s for example :(

No I haven't and I asked the seller about it. His reply was: "Nitron do no do lowering brackets, that's a bodge...."

iirc 7" front , 8" rear springs , no helpers , ideally you want a half inch spring shorter.

i rebuilt my fronts with much shorter main spring and 2" helper so I could run any ride height

Apparently the Elise shocks come with helpers for the rears, but not the vx shocks. (the text says so, although the photos show helpers on the vx shocks as well)

I wouldn't say that because those screenshots are from Nitron. But I find Nitron to be very dodgy considering the history with droopgate, this ride height issue and that they were interfering when someone tried to organize a group buy, etc. However, the seller told me he had never heard of this issue with loose springs and he had sold many kits without issues, and so on. The usual talk.

Why is the VX220 NTR more expensive than the exact same Elise S2 Toyota NTR40 set??  :glare:

Edit; too slow...

back to the topic though, i get near std ride height without helpers on NT40s.

They are 6 years old though, so maybe something has changed.

OP; if you have the later model, ~420mm long rear shocks, you will need helpers on a 550lbs spring for anything lower than OEM ride height. For the front you're right on the edge with 450lbs.

Just buy the helpers and be happy. They aren't that expensive and you can't run a Vx on a fiver!

OK, thanks for the info! The seller has contacted Nitron and we will see what they say. It's strange that the S2 rear shocks come with helpers while the vx shocks don't. The difference is that the Turbo is heavier and perhaps Nitron is meaning that the extra weight of the Turbo is supposed to lower the car. On the other hand the same kit for a vx NA comes without helpers too, and they are much lighter over the rear than the Turbo.

You need the intermediate platform and a std helper. I think they were about 40 a corner from nitron. I just asked them to select the appropriate parts. They are helpful in choosing but they don't work for free. If you've got the wrong bits they won't sort it for you but they do help get the right bits to put it right. I was in the same position with rattling springs. Unfortunately you just need to pay and get the bits.
