Hi, I picked up my VXT today from Vauxhall dealer. Overall, very happy with engine/gearbox/performance & general condition of the car etc. Two things I'm not sure about tho: 1. Steering wheel vibration (alot!) Over 70mph - is this normal or should steering be wheel be very still/planted at all speeds? 2. Suspension/car feels very clunky at lower speeds mainly from rear. Going over drain covers/un even tarmac makes a fair old clunk noise. Going over cat eye's on motorway feels quite harsh etc. I know these cars are pretty much race cars with lights, and just want to know if what I've mentioned is 'normal' or perhaps something(s) need attention. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks, Adam

P.S. which Vauxhall dealer? They're brave to still sell a VX.. has it got a warranty?

You've got the answer on #1, but I would check the following on #2 just to be sure/safe, 1. Ball joints 2. Suspension bushes 3. ARB bushes 4. Track rid ends (both ends). Also a long shot, but I've seen steering column universal joints and insecure steering racks clunk like hell going over uneven surfaces. Worth checking anyway.

Thanks for all the speedy replies, much appreciated. It's was Smith's of Ilkeston - agree very brave lol. They admitted that it's very unusual to retail it with the age/miles, but due to being a 1 owner, full main dealer history they did - and I'm glad. They even sorted out a 12 month warranty which I was very impressed with. Would highly recommend them. Think I'll get the car booked in with a local specialist for 'peace of mind' check up on all suspension/steering areas just to be safe.

If your going to that length, best get the rear checked out also, things like the dreaded hub carrier bolts are best to change out in any case and check the integrity of the toe links, both safety critical.

Probably lost a wheel weight causing the vibration.

Wouldn't mind betting that's the last VX that'll ever be sold by a Vauxhall dealer!

Anyway, take a trip up the M3/A3 to Back on Track if you're worried..  the points raised elsewhere on this thread are all 'worse-case' but valid, and it's sensible to have a check-over. BoT will see you right. I don't know your car history, but it's much more likely that you're just not used to the rawness of a car like this, and you'd be very unlucky if it spat you off the road and killed you to death on the way to Guildford..

Thanks again for all replies. Advice & points noted. I've done over 180 miles today driving it home to Southampton, so had a chance to give it a good test. Other than my points above/I'll get checked, what an awesome bit of kit. Cheers

Check the fuel lines have been done/secured properly.

This is what Rob is referring to: http://www.vx220.org...k/?fromsearch=1 I've seen several VXTs where the fuel lines have worked their way loose from the header tank. I was very lucky mine didn't go up in flames.

Imho I'd write that warranty off as I'd sooner have a blind yeti with a lobotomy using only a hammer as it's tool, doing work on a vx220 than to let anyone from Vauxhall touch it, especially this late in the game

The warranty enables me to use any VAT registered garage to complete any claim work.. so obviously I'd take it to a vx220 specialist if ever needed & definitely not Vauxhall. Having owned and run my own car business for many years, I made sure everything in the 'deal' was right. Fair play to this particular main dealer for first of all retailing it, and secondly outsourcing (and paying) for such a warrant option. Cheers

secondly outsourcing (and paying) for such a warrant option.

Thats because the last thing they wanted to do was work on it!

I will vote for ball joints for noise from the rear. Easy to check by removing the wheel and dampener and moving the suspension by hand.

Thanks for your vote, Vlamimir. Your not related to the infamous Impaler by any chance. ?
