Hi all,

I've been given a brand new Rotrex C38-91 and toying with the idea of using it on a build.

Any one have any experiences of these? Never really got involved with superchargers due to the lack of torque, however as it's not cost me anything it could be worth a punt.

Cheers

PK.

I won't be able to hear them over the whining :D

I can't find much about them, other than on US forums, didn't know if anyone across here has had any experience with them

If it'll be too much of a ballache I'll just stick to my original plan

Mark Verboom put in a C30 https://www.verboom....0419/index.html

But a 38 is a first i think.

Mark has got Peters c30 rotrex which was good for over 300bhp on the 2.2. He had to fit a restrictor to keep power down before he upgraded the internals.

Did he and Mark block the PCV in the manifold? If not the PCV will work in reverse.

Dunno. Both do not spend mucht time on the forums so info is limited.

How come he didn't put a bigger pulley on, far more efficient surely?

A centrifugal SC has a bit exponential boost, so the torque keeps rising with revs. (And no torque at low rebs;you need a roots SC for that)

So to make some mid range torque, they tend to use a bigger centrifugal/smaller pulley, but then choke the inlet with a restrictor to pull some power at max revs...

I thought they might have had a BOV and boost controller - seems slightly more elegant (but obviously more complex) solution than an intake restrictor.

I think a well setup centrifugal SC would be the best forced induction setup for a VX / Elise. As the short wheelbase and mid mounted engine don't mix so well with lots of torque. I am not saying the fastest but just in keeping with the ethos of the car.

In his diagram, Mark Verboom does show that he has a BOV installed. I wonder why he didn't just set that to open at a lowish boost (whatever he wanted) and then boost would be limited and hence torque would be limited.

I kind of prefer the torque delivery of a Rotrex to a Eaton one on light cars.

Other benefit is they are much lighter too.

But I think I will never fit one to my cars as they are still may less reliable than roots ones.
