Just for reference my n/a melted the cat which blocked the pipe and stopped it revving out! De cat all the way for me!

I had a de cat for a while but it was soooo loud. I then fitted an inline repackable silencer where the cat had been, that just blew everything out again. Then went back to a cat but then the packing came out of my exhaust, had that re packed with very high temp acoustifil and that blew out.

The idea I was going to try next was to have a fine metal mesh welded around the baffle pipe then pack it so that the packing couldn't be sucked out. They do a mesh that is good for up to 1400 degrees and you can see through it like sheer/chifon material. This is being done at the moment ready to go on Laurens car.

This was just some of the exhaust antics I went through (the exhaust was on and off about 8 times after the saab thing went on.) Weirdly the ecotec putting out not much less power never caused any problems and never blew packing out over a 6 year period. Possibly just the smaller pulley and higher revving of the stage 2 cams just tipped it over the edge past the packings abilities.

I run Larini decat with tubby back box. Passes noise tests but doesn't sound particularly inspiring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I spoke to tullet about replacing the cat and they said it needs the hjs one as the one supplied with the exhaust isn't up to the job when supercharged. Basically they keep the cost down by fitting cheap cats.

I've had a tullet cat failure on CS map.. blocking get the pipe and reducing revs. The CAT lasted 20k miles though... if the new one "only" lasts another 20k miles I wont be too disappointed.

Dan, did you ever see any evidence of detonation?

No, have never noticed any sign of it. It happened after a long period at full load on a long straight while following a friend in his f type so pretty sure it was just heat related, it had done over 20k miles so for a cheapy it lasted pretty well I suppose.

That is similar to the problem I had, but not the same. I think my description of 'misfire' is misleading.
