Have a set of Nitron NSS2 coilovers on my track vx220 and want to see how I can get the best out of them without spending too much otherwise I would sell and upgrade.

The car does feel like it needs some stiffer springs on it, had to run at pretty much full hard on them to remove the weight transfer and unnecessary under/oversteer.

I've been reading a few post about spring rates and it seems most track focused vx220 run circa 500-600 front and 600-700 rear.

Im going to contact Nitron to see if I can get away with using a 500/600 spring with the current damper/valving.

Has anyone run these more street focused coilovers with harder springs successfully on track?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Dan

Captain Vimes uprated the springs on his. I run standard NSS, and adding a 1" ARB has helped the roll a lot.

I had NSS1 as a track damper but they were revalved to suit. Nitron will tell you you can't do it.

Thanks Chaps,

Think will try going abit stiffer springs and then look at bringing a bigger ARB if it still feels like it needs it.

I'll give the captain a PM.

I think the Captain went 450/550 or something, which was the limit before revalving it.

Following with interest though! I'm thinking of getting new dampers and upping the spring rates, but the car drives nicely as it is tbh... e.g. can spending £1300+ on NTRs make a big enough difference to be worth it?

Exactly my thoughts James.

Cant really afford the extra outlay at the moment as plenty of other area's for improvement too!

Must be able to make a good compromise without too much outlay.

I often wonder how stiff people really need to go with track suspension, if its for occasional use..

I mean, by comparison, Lotus fitted their Exige S2's with Bilsteins coupled with spring rates a good bit lower than standard NSS's come with, and 450 / 550 combo is not far off double the spring rates of these. I know people prefer the more direct feeling of stiffer springs and the fact that they help mask handling deficiencies (by reducing pitch and roll), but are they really needed? I guess its a personal thing..

I use NSS on track, with pretty soft damper settings, around 6 clicks softer at the front than rear... it feels really planted, but rolls a fair bit, and can bite a little at the rear (rarely understeers). Main "problem" for me(!), is that you can't get it low enough... I want to assess how it feels set up much lower than it currently is, but I'd probably need helpers which the NSS doesn't come with as standard. Going to have a look at fitting the lowering brackets and MBR ARB that are sitting in the garage. Watching with interest.

Lower doesn't mean better, in fact most of the time it means worse.
