Over the past year my exhaust has got noticeably louder - its a 2.5" Tullet including manifold with 200 cell cat (on NA running approx 190 bhp)

I'm wondering what the possible causes are :

- hole in exhaust

- hole/crack in manifold

- packing blown out of back box  ? assuming the Tullet ones came with packing that could be lost that way ??

It improves slightly when hot but its still a lot louder than when I first had it (must be at least 5 years old now)

any easy checks to identify the cause ? (had a manifold crack in a previous car and I don't think it sounds like this...)

Ta.

Take a screwdriver and tap the backbox.

If it sounds hollow, it´s empty.

I blew the stuffing out of my tullet in a week.  They pack it with crap as standard as the better stuff is a chargable upgrade.

My Tullet didnt blow it all out, it just rammed the material up one end and then the perforated pipe fell off at one end inside.

I´m gonna try this company for a change:

http://www.powersprint.eu

They explain the blow out principle of padding directly at the perforated pipe:

http://www.powerspri.../edelstahlwolle

And advise their "SSF-HT" steel wool up to 1200 degree.

Then "1000 PLUS" padding up to 1000 degree.

For comparison Acoustafil PTX = 800 degrees, ZT-1 = 900 degrees.

There is only 1 dutch guy running it, and he is happy so far, but it´s not proven technology yet, so i make no promises. I just need to try something new, as the old is not working for me.

Any idea how much you need to order of the wire wool and padding?

I got some of this recently on your recommendation, should be on next week so will keep all updated as to longevity.

I can't get hold of a turbo backbox and want to do a few track days :)

I have a 2.5 tullet no cat. I don't speak German and I'm struggling with the power sprint guys....

So trying to do the same thing with suppliers in the UK...

Wire wool

https://www.merlinmo...ong-ss-wirewool

What do you think?

May then just fill with ZT1 my gut feel says the wire wool should make a big difference to the temps.... any thoughts?

I see Chilli went with PTX as its supposedly quieter as it expands more maybe I shall try loads of wire wool with PTX??

http://www.textilete...er-packing.html

thermol velosity

the wire wool does protect the wadding extreemly well but it coes at a cost of extra weight and less sound dampening

Thanks Chilli what would you recommend I do for 2.5 inch system? Just ZT1??

Is there any point trying to make it quiet or shall i just stick a turbo back box on and be done with it :)

I thought that might be the case wire wool effectively turns it into a straight pipe!

the ZT1 seems to be best on the market , but the exhaust system on supercharged cars get very very hot and the ZT1 packing will only last so long, if you put a thin layer of the wire wool the ZT1 will last and last but you might struggle with some of the tracks with tight sound limits.

one thing i will say is the exhaust temps can be reduced considerably by using water injection which will also reduce iat and all the other benefits the water injection brings

Chris

ps did you get the software to connect to the car

Mine got louder. I took it to Matt Bentley for repacking however it didn't seem much quieter after. I haven't had any issues over noise levels though....even at Bedford,

Does the SSF steel wool make you crash coming off a roundabout in the wet?
