In holland you are warned 1 month before mot date, and fined automatically 1 moth after expire.

I setup reoccuring dates in Google calendar and get warnings 1 week & x days before all these important sorts of dates.

What's an MOT?

Good job I don't live there! I regularly miss mine. I think my record is 6 months - makes you wonder if there is any point in bothering with TAX, insurance or MOT. There aren't enough cops around nowadays to catch anyone.

Agreed, it's always been illegal to drive away after a fail. But I've always done it and so have millions of others I suspect..No MOT gives them an excuse to go rifling for faults. There's been some media coverage recently about cars driving away from an MOT after a fail even when there's MOT still left on the old certificate. Slightly different as they'll be knowing driving an unroadworthy car, that's potentially£2500 fine with no defence.

Depends what the fault is. Broken reversing light - so what. No brakes - incredibly irresponsible.

Reverse light/s aren't part of the MOT. The MOT is a test for minimum roadworthyness. The difference you have nowadays is the information is easily and publicly available. A police officer or insurance company can find your fail information within seconds. That wasn't the case a couple of years back.Depends what the fault is. Broken reversing light - so what. No brakes - incredibly irresponsible.

You're missing my point.
