Got it back together and all fairly well, the 15's I test fitted fouled on the caliper but they are 35offset so always going to be an issue.
For the front the base offset is usually not the problem (ET35 in itself should be OK), it's the back-spacing of the wheel spokes in certain designs that makes them interfere with the caliper as they are fairly 'fat'.
Usually for the fronts you need to use wheels with spokes that are flush with the outer edge of the wheel or perhaps even bowed outward a little. The rear has no such issues as the one-pot sliding caliper is much more low profile, so a dished spoke wheel works.
Eg. years ago (late 2001) for my S2 Elise I looked at 15/16" winter tyre wheels using Azev type 'A' wheels. Ugly as sin, but easy to clean..
Problem was that on this design (with a custom ET and PCD order) they could only make more or less 'dished'or inset-spoke wheels. Worked OK for the back, but no hope in hell of getting those to clear the caliper on the front unless the ET was dropped to something silly like an ET10 or less which made the front wheels stick out way too far..
In the end they checked and only the 'E' type was better for back-spacing (even uglier!), so that's what I have been using for my winter wheels now for years.
Bye, Arno.
