I am going to be replacing all of my hubs/discs to the lotus 4x100 fitments and I'm just wondering if anyone on here has done it?

Is it as simple as un-bolting the old hubs/discs, buying the new ones and putting them back on?

I've found the following which looks to be correct?

www.ebay.co.uk Part no. 282097993793

Do the vx220 have a speed sensor that's needed on the hub too?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks Dan

Don't forget wheels :D

But yeah...

What you'd need are:

  • 4 hubs ( OEM quality is SKF VKBA 3511, FAG 713644070, Opel/Vauxhall Astra G 4-bolt ). Eg:  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262999765142
  • 4 Elise brake discs
  • 4 Elise wheels (likely toyota-elise for best match offset wise or custom wheels)

Should pretty much cover it... Rest is all the same like brake calipers, pads, uprights, etc.

Bye, Arno.

Gone for some Ultralite UL12 wheels, they are flow formed and weigh in at 6.6kg so fairly light.

8.25 ET20 so will be pushing the boundaries of width I think but shouldn't foul with the smaller diameter.

Just deciding whether to go for 215/225 front/rear or 205/225?

What size is that 16/17? I really liked the lotus ultralights (5.5+7kg) but they look a little too close to the TDs.

They are 15"s! Want as small as possible wheels to drop the gearing and for the characteristics! May look a little silly but I'm not fussed about that! Dan

Got the drivers front to pieces last night,

Bolts were abit rusty and tight but nothing a tap with the lump couldn't fix!

Got it back together and all fairly well, the 15's I test fitted fouled on the caliper but they are 35offset so always going to be an issue.

The wheels will be about the limit of width (8.25" et20), should be a few mm further than the below; (9" et 35) but there is very little camber at the moment which will hep too.

Taken it back to pieces so I can clean up the hub carries (rusty) with some black hamerite and got some caliper paint so will clean up and paint the calipers then fit it all with some pictures on sunday.

Dan

Go for 8x15 205/50 and 225/45 for small rears. A proved combination. I drive 225/50 on the back. Better optic an better for my harrop power.

Yeah I have ordered 205/50 fronts and 225/45 rears, which with the 4.4 gearbox should make it super short!!!!

Decided to hamerite the wishbones and Hun carriers whilst doing the comversion, will take abit longer but worth it I'm sure.

Also paint stripped the calipers and gave them and the ARB a coat of paint to match the car.

Wheels arrive on Tuesday so it will be moment of truth with fitment then!

Have you weighted all the parts (new and old) ?

just to get an idea of the weight savings

Got it back together and all fairly well, the 15's I test fitted fouled on the caliper but they are 35offset so always going to be an issue.

For the front the base offset is usually not the problem (ET35 in itself should be OK), it's the back-spacing of the wheel spokes in certain designs that makes them interfere with the caliper as they are fairly 'fat'. Usually for the fronts you need to use wheels with spokes that are flush with the outer edge of the wheel or perhaps even bowed outward a little. The rear has no such issues as the one-pot sliding caliper is much more low profile, so a dished spoke wheel works.

Eg. years ago (late 2001) for my S2 Elise I looked at 15/16" winter tyre wheels using Azev type 'A' wheels. Ugly as sin, but easy to clean..

Problem was that on this design (with a custom ET and PCD order) they could only make more or less 'dished'or inset-spoke wheels. Worked OK for the back, but no hope in hell of getting those to clear the caliper on the front unless the ET was dropped to something silly like an ET10 or less which made the front wheels stick out way too far..

In the end they checked and only the 'E' type was better for back-spacing (even uglier!), so that's what I have been using for my winter wheels now for years.

Bye, Arno.

Thanks for the heads up Arno......

I have to admit to something very silly though...When I test fitted the wheel I hadn't put the disk on thus it was even further inwards hence catching on the caliper.

With the disk mounted it clears the caliper no problem at all, It does still however foul on the wishbone but it is a 9" rim, the ones coming tomorrow at 8.25 so should be fine.

In terms of weight saving I the wheels will gain me abit but the hubs I cant see been much difference.

I will however weigh one out of interest for forum members.
