Hello everybody,

I'm Riccardo from Italy and I'm having problem with my Speedster.

Last weekend I replaced the battery because the previous was dead.

Now when I try to start the engine the first time after connecting the battery it works for 1 second and then nothing.

If I try the second time only the starter work, but the engine does nothing.

Removing the cable battery 3 minutes the behaviuor is the same: first try 1 second and second trying nothing.

Any idea? Somebbody who had the same problem?

Thank you very much

Try pressing the black rubber inertia cut out switch mounted on/near the rear subframe

Also try your spare key. It´s not very common, but the ecu can loose the programmed key during battery loss. (hence try spare key first)

Sounds like immobiliser might have to reprogram key or transponder that goes around ignition barrel

I also thought a problem of immobilizer, but I have not a spare key. Lost by previous owner.

The question is: why it tries to start only the first time, but the  second and third is completly dead (only starter working)?

Where is located the inertia button?

It is in the engine compartment, attached to the left hand side chassis leg (near the gearbox). It is a small square box (matchbox size) with black rubber button on the top. You will need a torch or good light to find it probably...

Mine did this, after I had the battery disconnected to clean the terminals. All I did was leave the car with the ignition turned on for a minute, or so. After that the engine started. I guessed that the ECU had to reset after the battery disconnect.Don't know for sure, though. 🤔

Hallo guys, in this weekend I did some checkes.

Finally I try to use a key without transponder (only mechanic) that I did as backup.

the behavoiur is the same has the working one.

For this reason it should be a problem of immobilizer.

Do you know if it's possible to bypass the immobilizer as in the elise?

This tool doesn't work for speedy.

No, the immobolizer system is a combination of a chip in your key, the immobolizer ring behind your keylock shrout and the ecu having it programed in.

Is there anyone nearby with an obdreader to see if you have any error codes?
Based on those we may be better able to pinpoint what goes wrong.

Did you press the inertia (fuel cut off switch)?

I tested the OBD error with a standard bluetooth reader and it says: no error.

I tried to turn the key kicking brake and accelerator and the MIL was not lamipng to show the error.

I tried to push the inertia button but it seems already down. Is it correct?

it is not possible to bypass the vauxhall ECU immobilisers, most likely your key will need reprogramming to match the ECU immobiliser system

Can you unplug and check the 3 relays in the back of the car?

(make sure to stick them back in the same position)

If you have a 12v battery connect up the permanent terminals, then connect up the switched live and see if it makes a "click" sound. If you have a circuit tester you can also check that the switched live is working.

Just look online on how to connect/wire them, it's very easy.

The yellow of the 3 is the starter relay.

First thing to check is for corrosion.

If the pins are clean, you could try Nev's advice.

Another option is to bypass the yellow relay to see if it fires up the engine.

Check you have the handbrake on, and gear in neutral. Then turn over the key.
Remove the yellow relay, and create a (temporary) connection between the plus and ground connection to hotwire the car.
If it starts, you have a faulty yellow relay.
If it still does not start, big chance your ecu no longer remembers the chip immobiliser handshake from your key, and you will need Opel to help you program it back in.
