Low budget film full of holes and that gives no idea of the real horror that went on there.

At the start of the film the Germans (who you never see) are just 100m from the beach and never get closer.

You never see more than a few thousand men on the very neat beach (as opposed to the 400000 there were on a continually bombed beach). There are no thousands of vehicles on the beach or bomb holes or thousands of dead and you get no sense of the horror in any way that they all suffered dreading each stuka raid (they show 3 stukas each on there own coming in once!)

You see three enemy aircraft (all of whom are shot down by the three spitfires (with endless bullets) the film spends a lot of time on.

Various scenes, which are repeated from different angles in a disjointed way throughout the film (to fill time and save money).

Its at best a 2 out of 5).

It was rated 12 so sadly this is how many will now think of Dunkirk, a crap film that apparently Harry from that boy band is in.

Just had to write this somewhere as annoyed.

Oh... I was going to see that at the IMax this weekend. :(

I'll give it a swerve... maybe see Spiderman instead. At least the kids will like that. Thanks for the tip off.

Spiderman is really good IMO, especially if you like superhero / MCU films.

Although I personally wouldn't take much heed on reviews on a car forums (no offence to anyone).

Ah that's a shame, so how does it compare with the first scenes from Saving private Ryan?

Thought that was quite hard hitting..

Promised much but there was something missing. In fact a whole scale of the event was missing. So compared with Private Ryan opening half hour? ..doesn't compare in any way. Misses the savagery which I'm sure was part of the real Dunkirk. Shame as I was expecting to see one of those films when you're lost for words while the credits roll. I did like the lack of dialogue and the Spits....until I realised the endless ammunition...that was a shocking mistake..( producers never watched Guy Martin and his Spitfire ?) I'd say go see it. Big screen will be always be better than watching it on DVD. Got to say, for me, the WW1 soldier mud sculpture in Trafalgar Sq is a far more moving portrail of war than Dunkirk.

Just been to see it here in Amman. I thought it was OK but nothing like as harrowing as it could / should have been. And certainly not nearly as good as Saving Private Ryan. The cinema was great though. Only 30 massive sumptuous fully reclining leather seats with free drink and popcorn and 'at seat' service.

Just saw it and thought much the same. I enjoyed it but the whole film felt like a build up to the actual story/action ... but then the credits came along.

the cinema was unusually full of 60+ yr old people. I was sat next to an old dear - every unexpected bullet/bang had her gasping and jolting in the seat in shock. made me smile

The missus rightly asked why the beach was empty, and how a spitfire could have a/ unlimited ammo and b/ glide so far for so long. Disappointing film.

This one really good scene gives a better portrayal of the scale than the whole of the new film.

I could be wrong but I thought part of the reasoning for its 'dumbing down' was due to a 12 certificate that allows the history to be introduced to a younger audience.

Admittedly I haven't seen it.

If the event at Dunkirk was about shooting up 3/400.000 man like sitting ducks, then this film has little to do with that. Was looking forward to see the film, but after seeing it it turned out a dissapointment.

Next money spinning shite sounds like the "Emoji Movie"; no doubt people will spend £x million on that and then sound surprised that it was poor.

I thought Nolan couldnt fail. Hur I also red this film sas recorded on a 70mm film and not digital and he didlikes to use to much special effects. Maybe thats why so much is missing. Anyway its Sad I hope I like it better. I Think also in Rouge one when Darth Vader shows up. You dont feel the fear in this ppl soon getting killed by him.
