Hi Guys, (incl Gals),

I know some owners in/near MK have fitted bonnet-pins and I wondered if I could arrange a meet with one of you to see how they have been fitted, from the INSIDE view. !

Why? Because on the way back from the The Waffle House meeting this happened - see image attached - the bonnet did not fly open!!

I have bought a pair of pins from Demon-Tweeks but am now nervous about where, precisely, to fit them because the "thickness" of the bonnet lid  varies near the area of the bump-stops.  I have some small machine-screws and nuts to go through the thicker area of the lid (instead of the spring-clip fixings supplied) but don't know the structure  of this area.

Anybody anywhere able to send  some piccies of the fitment from the underside of the bonnet please?

Thanks

iRobut

Hi Rob,

We certainly discussed your bonnet-pins at the Waffle House.

Many thanks for your prompt response, I have sent a PM with my contact details.

Regards

R

My bonnet was starting to split around the catch I added a reinforcing plate inside held in with fibreglass and another in this side then screwed the catch back in Don't buy cheap Pinza few guys on the Clio sport forum have had them snap although the forces on our plastic sh*t boxes are not so great due to the opening being the way it is

That'd repair easily enough if you wanted. Would need paint on the underside though.

Mine broke years ago and I made an aluminium plate in the shape of the fibre glass and it's been solid ever since.

Hi and thanks to all who have replied, really appreciated.

I've always hated the paltry pull-release that floats around under the dashboard so it's a good chance to get rid of that, as well as the coil-over penis, so I think I'll go for the bonnet pins.

Any advice on how to drill - make holes in - bonnet?

Cheers.

I put an aero catch in the middle so I could use the existing plate where the catch is for the pin.  Looks pretty decent, and a few have done the same, plus eliminates the dreaded cable from the whole equation.  Does involve dremmelling the bonnet though!

Hi TheRealVXed

Good idea, gives a margin for error too as you can then adjust the new plate holding an erect penis rather the dangling one that got stcuk constantly.

Thanks

Any pics on the aero catch? Been considering going down this route myself.

I don't live anywhere near my car unfortunately, but I have a couple of ones I can upload.  Don't really do it justice though as the car is covered in fibreglass dust

Will post shortly.
