Hi guys,
Yesterday I bought a VX220...
It has a Courtnay Supercharger that the last owner fitted. It has staggered (17 rear, 16 front) wheels, Nitron suspension and various other small mods.
I've been lurking and watching eBay for the last year with the intention of buying a VX220 Turbo. I've always seen the appeal of superchargers but wanted a turbo to go for nuts power. On Friday I too an extended test drive in the supercharged car on the off-chance I would like it and utterly LOVED the power delivery - it suits the chassis so well! Needless to say, I went home and did a bit of google-fu and found that the supercharged cars can have a reasonable state of tune so was sold.
Initially I want to do some tidying up - always the same when you get a new car. The last owner loved it to death but like me, wasn't hugely concious of the asthetics. I'll do a few little bits and bobs and maybe get a little paint done to finish her off.
I'm really looking for some turbo side scoops and a hard-top if anyone knows whree I can get some? The seat bolster on the drivers side needs re-trimming too, as is often the case.
First 'real' mods will be to make the engine a bit more zingy and get it mapped. The current map is very safe. 10.8 on the AFR under boost and a limiter down at the 6300-6500 range. It's still pulling up there so could do with a little more legs. The four branch manifold and nice exhaust help, but I think a billet fly-wheel and more aggresive clutch are in order too.
After that I want to build a forged engine and get as far as the Eaton charger will take me before swapping to the Harrop, I think.
The steering doesn't self-centre too well I've noticed. I'm told the car has as much castor as it can get with a fairly recent alignment. Is this because of the 205 tyres on the front, (225 on the rear)?
Lots to do! I bought the car with my heart, and am a tinkerer so watch this space!
Can you point me to a good insurers for modded cars? I'm 36, loads of NCD and have a garage so hopefully it wont be too bad!
Any other advice is always gratefully received.
Many thanks.
