Going there tomorrow for 10 days on a work trip. Working during the day but free evenings and this coming weekend.

Wondering if anyone has any tips on what to do, where to go and what to see?

I like spicy food, so intend to do as much of that as my guts will take. other than that, so far, I have no plans.

I went about 10 years ago - Petronas Towers, Batu caves, FRIM canopy walk were all good. Quite a good zoo to.

Same here, Petronas Towers and Batu caves.

Caves are ok, nothing special!

Oh, and Sepang of course. There was a small exhibition of cars, plus some bike practice going on when we went.

Towers, caves....

I'm scared of heights and don't like confined spaces.

Mind you I don't like the cold, don't eat meat and am lactose intolerant, yet here I am in Switzerland, a cold mountainous country whose priciple diet is meat and cheese.

I had my best meal of my life outside the bus station, street cooked chicken tika cooked on the side of an oil barrel, served on a paper plate with chutneys and naan. All for £1.20 !!

Surprisingly on a 6 week tour of Asia, I barely had any tummy issues. The bigger issue was keeping the girls away, my girlfriend lost her rag several times!

Here's a gratuitous pic (non Speedo compliant people should look away now!) :o

Is that a ladyboy in the photo?

A while back I did two weeks in Borneo. Everyone except me was eating cooked stuff from shacks. I just ate stuff out of packets. Everyone laughed. They weren't laughing when they were shltting their internal organs out in a plss stained, cockroach infested roadside longdrop toilet and I wasnt!!

Petronas towers are better from the outside.  The best view of them is from the Sky Bar on the other side of the park (which is also worth a wander around).  There is also the sunken gardens on the east side of the city which are worth a look and if you like ornithology there is a pretty sweet bird zoo (aviary?) in there.

For nights out Bukit Bintang has a plethora of bars for fooding and drinking.  You also will hardly struggle on a vegan/veggie diet out there either.  Plenty of dishes to cater for all in most of the restaurants.

Check out some of the night markets too.  Always worth a look around, but watch out for the durian fruit if you aren't anosmic.... (they are banned from most places including hotels!)  The public transport system is decent as well so get over to Mid Valley for a massive shopping centre and a great karaoke all you can eat chinese restaurant and loads of bars.  There is another areas just outside the centre full of bars and a bit more upmarket (i think its Damansara Heights but can't 100% remember).

If you have time at the weekend and want to do some gambling then you can get up to Genting Heights (the only place in Malaysia gambling is legal) and get overwhelmed in the Vegas style horror.... Don't forget your passport if you go there though.  It is mandatory.

I really enjoyed my time there, but 5 days is more than enough there on a holiday, so 10 days of working you should be able to see most of it in your free time.

Have fun!

UK shot, rock climbing in Yorkshire a year or so after our Asia trip: https://goo.gl/photo...6jZ4xYp1BpwgVv9

Very annoyingly the film in our analogue camera spoiled, so we were only left with a few pics of the whole trip (taken on the backup camera). Such a shame, as we saw some amazing stuff. Surfing in Bali for a week was the highlight, I even went to the Sari Club (which was bombed a decade later). In the end we came home early due to excessive heat and tourist fatigue, sounds stupid but I'm not very good at just looking at stuff all the time, I'm more of a "doer".

KL seemed to be populated by real hotchpotch of nationalities, almost as many Indians as there were Malayans. Tech and infrastructure was better than I'd imagined it to be.

When I retire fully, I think I will revist my back-packing days, the freedom to just wander around with a rucksac and a pair of flip flops is great, such a contrast to our intensely time efficient locked down money blinkered lives in the West.

Didn't do any roof top bars. Don't like heights.

Didn't see the caves. Did see the petronas towers.

Did eat lots of spicy food. Didn't drop my guts.

Actually - loved the food, although I got sick of the whole city smelling of cooking.

Here's me setting off.

Left the bike at the airport.

The envitable Emirates flight via dubai.

Where I had some traditional Arabic food.

The train journey from the airport starts like this.

Ends like this.

I pigged out.

But I didn't have the frog porridge.

Plenty of massage places - all for feet!

Posted Image

Actually, there were some local street prostitutes. You don't want to get an ugly one.

Posted Image

Indeed the smelly fruit were banned from my hotel. I wanted to try them, but didn't get round to it.

Posted Image

Traffic was sometimes awful. I gave up using a taxi and walked, even though I did get quite sweaty.

Posted Image

After trying to organise things for my one free weekend it all fell through so I ended up going to a swanky resort near Port Dickson, which I didn't like.

Posted Image

An impressive skyline is more important than a clean river.

Posted Image

It's pretty sad to see these newly industrialised countries making the same mistakes as we did 200 years ago.

Posted Image

Lunch for £1.5

Posted Image

Petronas towers quite nice, if a little bling.

Posted Image

Preferred these, although wouldn't like to be beneath them on a windy day.

Nice park.

Posted Image

Why do people stand up and queue like this when they already have an allocated seat?

Posted Image

Overall nice trip. Wish I'd had more time there and less work to do. Would like to explore more of Malaysia.

I wonder why they put that bend into Petronas towers?!
