My original Tow Hook has seen better days do I've replaced it with a rather nice one from Elise Parts. It's the same thread and screws in a few turns but then I encounter resistance.

Novice questions:

Do I keep turning ?

How many turns ?

Damage risk ?

How deep does the thread go ?

I have greased it and would seek to turn and counter-turn it steadily..

Thanks.

Run a tap through the old thread to clean it out first. It'll be all rusty.

Closed you say? Based on your posting time, they are open according to this: https://www.eliseparts.com/

If you are the sort of person who needs advice on how to put a bolt into a bolt hole then forgive me for being somewhat incredulous. Either there is something wrong with your bolt or bolt hole, in which case contacting the seller seems sensible, or perhaps you simply need to hand your man card back in.

Completely uncalled for. The chap (or chapess) has come on asking for help. If you can't be bothered to help don't comment

Job complete - you were right it was pretty choked with crud. Tap did the trick. Thanks.

So you're belittling someone who's giving it a go themselves (which seems to be your mantra), and rather than bodging it asking for others advice/experience to make sure he's not doing something wrong.

Not everyone is as gifted as you obviously are.You are quite special.

Last time I "tapped out" a bolt/hole was 40 years plus ago in metalwork in school and a tool to do this rudimentary operation is not one that I suspect everyone owns.

Jeez - if you don't want to help then surely the best thing for all concerned is to just shut the fcku up and ignore the thread then all stays peaceful and calm. That's my helpful advice and input to this thread anyway.  :)
