Cool. If you could make youtube videos too that would get a lot of interest. I can't get my head around how a student could fund this though
Ask Jacob, he's done pretty well!
I live on a diet consisting only of super noodles and work lots of weekends at a supermarket

Sounds like a great project. I'd love to see the aero work posted up here, I'm looking into the aero of mine at the moment.
Very jealous of this project, I did a degree in motorsport engineering at Derby Uni and built a few different race cars during my time there and this is much more exciting!

It does sound good doesn't it. I'm tempted to ask if I could go up and join them for a few days once it's got going.

Even if the can't sell stuff if the panels are available for jonnyboy (or others) to take a mould from that's be useful
I think I've found a way of selling stuff so keep an eye open... I'm sure we can be persuaded to lease out the body panels in return for beer and biscuits (we're students after all!!)

This is a student led project, born because we were bored of not doing anything motorsport related on our motorsport degree. I'll post aero work up as and when I receive it from the aero dept.

Absolutely Nev - we'd love you to come down and help us/show us where we're going wrong!
We should organise a meet to go an watch it race!
The support would mean a huge amount to all of us - I will put up the dates we intend to compete in when the calendar is out. Testing calendar too!

Unfortunately this car is nothing more than a chassis now - it's been stripped for racecar spares!!

Might have one for sale.....
Just found this thread and I'm feeling really distressed 🤐
Firstly, I sometimes take my car to the sports village in Hatfield:I hope you're not counting it as one of the three!😰
Next, I suggest you get a finance or business student on the project ASAP!
They can raise funds for you by selling parts (starting with me and the front wheel arch liners 😇).
Ah, in that case we've got four!!
We're on the other campus - if you find yourself at a loose end come and say hello!

Quote: The guys doing aero have got properly excited about it - they've got plans for vortices on the edge of the splitter to change the underfloor pressures and all sorts of weird bits and pieces so it should be quite a sight!
This will be of great interest - are you doing any physical testing?
Mainly all through CFD, however I should like to think we'll get some models printed up to use in our scale wind tunnel to validate, unless we can beg/borrow/steal some proper wind tunnel time that is!
Not sure if he's still on this forum, but 'Winstar' was involved in / or has previously completed some CFD on the basic VX220 shape, either during some time at Lotus or through a consultancy (something like that). He may be contactable and potentially useful in relation to areas of the aero design to focus in on..

good luck with that many cooks involved
Make sure everything that someone does can be bypassed (either wiring, mechanically or aero) in the event of it not making it off the page/pc. ITs appearing pessemistic, but at the same time I've direct experience with a formula stupid (oops student) project that nearly died on its arse because too many people were late with parts/stuff and the bypasses had to be bodged in as opposed to designed in

I still come on here occasionally, I did as a bit of fun before I had kids. Hi All,
We are continuing to work on the car development, we have now setup our crowdfunding page which can be found here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/uhvx220.
We appreciate that you all work hard for your money, any donations would be hugely appreciated to help us achieve our aim of getting the car on track! We will be posting about our car development, including our custom components such as the aero package which as you can see below is currently being optimised!
Cheers, Ed
