After all the years of modding my vx, somehow never heard of Eltech. Had a good look today and they have a lot of interesting bits for Vx's and Lotus cars.

Some nice seats, carbon bits, very interesting big rear diffuser and lots of other bits.

Sadly not a lot for my car.

I have a front splitter on order. Their delivery time is not the quickest though.

Galloping senility strikes again, should have said Edel, and not Eltech and not diffuser but front splitter

http://www.ms-edel-c.../shop_frame.htm

I did look at the Eltech designs but preferred the Edel. It doesn't fit directly against the clam like most splitters but is spaced 2cm away.

I hadn't seen that splitter design before - looks good!

First I’ve heard of this company. I like the splitter design however, can someone with some knowledge of aero explain if it will actually work given the gap between the clam and the splitter? Will that make it more or less effective? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

itd be good at making drag that said, 95% of what anyone sells, or has bolted to their car is only good for asthetic puposes anyway.

I certainly hope so, after all that's the whole point of a front splitter.  No doubt it will be mostly cosmetic though.  I doubt I'll achieve the speeds for any length of time required for it to have any real effect.

If I read that drawing correct the splitter creates negative cp (pressure co-efficient) just underneath it (the blue blob under the splitter appendage). I am assuming as I am clueless on these things that negative pressure will be lift!

Someone who knows their sh*t please put me straight.....

I don't think any sort of splitter makes any difference to the aero unless the VX is low (by that I mean very low). I did some experimentation with a 3" all-around projecting plywood splitter and it made naff all difference until I lowered the car so that the splitter to ground clearance was below 9CM. At 7 CM clearance there was dramatic frontal down force (making the steering genuinely heavy) at speeds over about 90 leptons. However at 11cm (for reasonable road driving) my splitter made no difference, so I've taken it off.

In short the ride height is fundamental to making any sort of frontal down force on the VX220. And those OEM mini splitter things will make 0 difference as they are tiny, just there for looks as others have mentioned.

HTH.

Nev, that is exactly what the books tell you and what my experience is so far.

Somewhere arround 60 mm there is a maximum ground effect that really makes the whole black magic of aerodynamics work.

Another really drastic effect shows up when you build some side skirts as low as possible:

@Badcop: Thanks for that, I had/have little in depth idea about aero really, I was simply using experimentation to see if/when a splitter would make any difference.

When I lowered the car down to the front coilover's bump stops the car could barely get over a coke can. Clearly you can't regularily drive like this for a couple of very good reasons, but it really was startling how much down force was generated. By about 110 leptons the steering became so heavy that I had to start using 2 hands to turn the steering wheel. The car was immensely planted like no other that I have ever driven. Sadly though, due to the road conditions we have I obviously couldn't leave it like that.

But for someone who just tracks/races their car then this info could be a great mod, though it's worth bearing in mind that this was in conjunction with a huge 10:1 chord wing on the rear.

I've been helping the Hertfordshire M.Sc team project VX220 that will be racing this year and they are doing something like this and some other carefully calculated aero mods, I am keen to see what they come up with, though they are regulated/limited by whatever rules there are. Maybe they can use side skirts and a profiled upside down low pressure wing under the chassis.

The team might even come up with something functional that could be made by Eltech or someone else as a road fitment for our cars.
