Has anyone got experience of making a manifold for the 2.2 ? Yes I realise that I could buy an off the shelf Tullet but I like a challenge, all parts ie header flange and pipes can be bought and it's then down to design and time. I sent my car to Piper to develop a 421 manifold 

Im not sure they sold many or if they worked that well..

 

I still have mine fitted to my car 

 

They stopped production I think a few went back.

John is fitting a second hand Piper to mine so I’m interested to see what difference if any it makes over standard. I researched them and found a thread on Z22SE forum (I think) which documented the development. Pretty sure they don’t make them any more Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Piper basically lost money on every exhaust sale to the vx world. Stuffing got blown out on idle, manifolds where warped, etc

You could try Tim at TRUST, he is building his business up and has made some for the Z20LET already. He is amazingly cheap too (IMO).

The original TMS 4-1 was nice with equal length runners. There are no off the shelf 4-2-1 though a few including myself adapted the weapon R (tusudo) manifold from the states but the boot needs cutting. 2bular started to develop a long runner 4-1 which they said would work well on a larger displacement 4 pot but it never got past development .

Neil's fix.
Relief cut which cures the warp and prevents future issues caused by thermal expansion.

Are you sure the warp was not caused by the initial welding

I made my own equal length 4-2-1 manifold, which took a while to do, but was well worth the effort

He uses 3mm walled tube which is the thickest I've heard of on an exhaust manifold and helps ensure it's longevity. Not sure he's made one for the Z22, so you'd have to ask.

 

As I expect you know the length and points of union of the 4-2-1 are important if you actually want the pulses to merge/scavenge at a set RPM.

I deleted the mechanical water pump to allow the primaries to be smoother flowing, nothing is allowed to get in the way when it comes to more power

 

Thats an early photo, with a 2.2 engine. I have deleted the thermostat housing and pipework since then

Mine were very tight iE needed to use a special tool to the water pipe for it to fit It also took around 2.5 hours to bolt to the head but all in the aid of the love off these cars

John, I've got a manifold blank plate (a plate cut and drilled to bolt onto the head onto which you weld the pipes) knocking around the garage if you wanted to make your own.

Looks like that exhaust has never been hot
Are you sure you drive it to the MOT station every year

There was 2 types of tms 4-1 manifolds. One required boot to be cut and 2nd didnt. Both where made by Chris tullet Also Chris is right, one manifold did make it past the development stage with 2 primaries
