Looking to fit full hanesses with track days coming up. Are seat slots a must, or just a nice thing to have? Which harness bar works best with no slots? Which harnesses work best with no slots. Is there a harness with "pull up" lap belts for the VX220? Is there a downside to removing the pads behind the seat headrests?

Shoulder straps are too far apart without harness holes. 4-point not recommended unless theres some ASM type feature. CG Lock worth trying.

Bad idea withought harness holes in the seats. Like a really, REALLY bad idea. As foxy says the shoulder straps may slide apart in an accident and someone could go torso first through the gap, relying only on the lap belts and effectively kiss their own ass goodbye. You can buy bars which screw in the shoulder straps and others where the straps loop around. Personal choice but the looped strap and bar is probably more common and there's no risk of the screws shearing. Pull up belt I assume you mean a 5th point? You can add one to some buckles like the schroth in mine, but you need to attach the crotch belt to the bottom of the seat or floor, and again you'd need a hole in the seat to make it fit right. The foam is ok to remove in my opinion but there have been accidents apparently which have relied on the metal frame being there.

Pull up belts adjust the lap belts by pulling the belt ends up, rather than down. Easier to do in a narrow car. Commonly used in Chaterham/Westfield type cars. I thought they might be the thing in Vx220s, but haven't seen them anywhere.

Schroth Profi Asm 4-point harness, for example, can be ordered either with flexibelt (which can be altered between pull-up or pull-down) or as pull-up. The same harness also exists as a Lotus specific version (shorter belts and different lap belt mounts, as I understand) but this harness has pull-down for some reason! Don't understand why this one is pull-down when there's so little space in the Elise/VX.

Where do most buy the inserts from? I came across a company a few months ago but have since forgotten it!

I'd found the MSAR ones, and thought you'd saved me some money Pete, but, unless I'm reading it wrongly, the MSAR ones, here: grommets are £24 for a pair, whereas the Corbeau ones are £13 each, so £26 a pair. MSAR have a good guide for fitting them, too, so I think I'll have a go at fitting those. While I was on the MSAR site, I found this guide: guide , which confirms the need for seat slots and adds a lot more useful stuff. Found this harness bar at Elise Parts: harness bar which is for wrap round straps. As harboged says Schroth have the Flexibelt lap strap system, but don't offer it on a suitable harness for the VX220. They do a harness, with pull up lap straps, for Chaterham style cars, but that has clip on shoulder straps. All the components are there, just not the specific product. Might have a word with MSAR when the time comes to order. Thanks for the help guys. I now have a plan!

Ah, OK, true, so the MSAR grommets work out to £28.80 inc. vat. Also, Corbeau don't charge delivery, which makes another £5.50 difference, so you're right, I could save around £10.10 on a pair. The MSAR grommets are specific to the seat, however, and I'll probably also be getting the harnesses from MSAR and the harness bar, which I've just found on their site, so, thanks, but I will stick with them.

Our local tr8immer fitted by grommets and when it came to doing another VX he said it was easier to cut holes (its obvious where they go) and just retrim around that hole, using some rubber edging on the seat for extra protection. It looks better as well. The grommets tend to pull the leather and they always have wrinkles around them.

Hi, I really didn't think about the shoulder straps not being in the correct position, so thanks for the post. Has any one got any pics of the holes cut out and retrimmed with the rubber edging? Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
